My partner and I visited the hotel for a conference. We payed $45 to park in the hotel's "secure" car park. When we returned to our vehicle we were shocked to find our car had been broken into and our bags and many valuables were taken! After reporting to staff, the manger at the time saw to the CCTV footage and reported back to us shortly after that the camera which monitored where our car was parked had been (in her words) covered or tampered with for almost the exact hours the conference was held. Next came the maintenance man and his offsider to see what the fuss was about, when learning of what had happened the maintenance man asked us "was there a rock in the door? " pointing to the fire escape. No there wasn't, but there was a big rock just beside it. And just beside that was a pile of our belongings, the worthless ones. The maintenance man after suggesting several suspicious things, like his offsider heard some yelling about an hour ago then bumped the boy suggestively for him to go along with it and the boy looked like that was the first he had heard of it as well as the boy went out the fire escape for a cigarette not long before this too, he then said "that sucks" and walked away. He returned shortly after and revealed to us he had a dash cam (but he went to the plumbing shop for about an hour) in his car that was convenientally situated facing the direction of both our car and the fire escape. The manager gathered the device from him and took it upstairs to her office where I believe herself and several other staff watched the footage. This was several weeks ago and we have still not heard a thing from neither the hotel nor the police. After being barely helped nor offered even as little as a glass of water, I took it upon myself to ask if we could at least have the $45 back that we paid for "secure" parking. The first response was "there is a big sign in the car park stating leave at your own risk"! I'm sure even if I had seen this sign anyone would agree in a gated, CCTV monitored, nice hotel's underground car park, the most risky thing would be someone bumping or scratching your car as we saw the driver of a BMW do 3 times whilst trying to reverse into their park. Furthermore, after looking into this, it seems it is a common occurrence within the rydges chain. Several other reviews on Melbourne hotels and Rydges in other capital cities have reported they too had their cars broken into whilst parked "securely" underground. Maybe this needs to be investigated seriously internally and externally. It's very very suspicious and it appears until now, unnoticed and definitely not looked into beyond the guest leaving. Wake up Rydges, you've got a rat problem !!!
