An amazing place to visit. Stunning views from the top of the tower and then descend down each floor following the history of The Great War as you go. Thought-provoking and sombre, it holds a mirror up to your humanity and asks you to question the narratives given by media during wars. Tales of bravery and resistance woven throughout and you can even walk through the trenches and see what living conditions were like. Thoroughly worth a visit. Make sure to read all the boards, watch the videos and open the 8 flags....

A monument worthy to visit. Gives a good overview of what happened over time Look at the entrance of the tower to the video in order to follow the right path. You start at the top to work you way down over the levels and enter each time another way of how the history is been explained. Wheels chairs and rolling equipment is difficult to take with you. The experience levels are really good. Go to the toilet before you start and take with you some drinks and/or small snack. Enjoy

Schade.

This museum is a must visit we were very fortunate being friends with someone who has dedicated his life to remembering how the world war played out on his homeland of Belgium, Johan Vandewalle has also appeared on the series Time Team when they recruited his expertise to excavate the famous Vampire Dugout in Flanders. Johan has contributed to the Yser Tower on 2 floors with genuine exhibits and his recreation of a dugout using authentic timbers recovered from an original dug-out gives a lasting and genuine impact of what life must have looked like under ground in WW1. Johan pointed out many interesting facts about the area and what it was like in WW1 for the not only the soldiers but the Belgians too along with staff from the museum. It's situated in large grounds with ample parking for any size of vehicle and the canal with its cafés is a nice place to unwind and reflect after the museum visit. If your interested in meeting Johan Vandewalle you can find him in his cafe De Dreve, Sonnebeke in Ypres where you can have a hot meal and a drink surrounded by war memorabilia that Johan has recovered locally. He also has dedicated the upstairs into a museum which is...

You take a lift to the 22nd floor and walk down, viewing a historical display every floor.

There was a REALLY good recap of the first few years of WWI at the top 10 floors with language support of Dutch, French, German, and English.

Once it got to talking about the end of the war and onto life after WWI, the museum only supported one language. The last 10 floors were completely confusing to me, because there was no English support.

We visited during when multiple classes of children were left to roam the building unsupervised. We raced down the building to try to stay ahead of the screaming children, but it was unsuccessful.

For such a serious topic, the environment didnt really foster a peaceful reflective environment. Sound travels quite far in...
