I was lucky enough to be under 10 minutes away in my rented gîte and I love my medieval history, so I thought I'd go and take a look. The drive to the castle flew by and in no time I was looking up a very impressive medieval fortress, I parked at the bottom of the hill but if you're not up for the march to the top then there is a car park at the entrance to Bonaguil castle however you will miss the little boutique shops on the winding path up. €9.50, for an adult, plus if you take your earbuds, there is a qr code that will give you access to a walk and talk guide for free. I was incredibly lucky to have the castle almost to myself. Two tours of very young French children were just finishing their guided visit, so it was all mine 😊 I won't spoil your visit by going into too much detail, but it is well worth a visit, and you have access to pretty much all areas. It's a great way to spend a few hours. In the chapel, you can even buy wine from a local producer. The white is a tasty chardonnay, and the red is a black as midnight malbec, I tasted, and I bought one of each. Read moreA very big castle on top of a mountain, when you drive to this place keep your camera ready, there is a nice moment when you drive to it you see the whole castle on the mountain.
There are public parking spaces down at the castle but you can drive all the way up, there is another public parking space near the entrance of the castle.
But the route from down up to the castle is very nice, shops restaurants and even people that still live in the old historic buildings are on the route up.
The castle is immense, allthough its partly broken down because of the french revolution. There is enough to see.
The admittance is not free, but its really cool to do the tour and everything is available in different languages such as french, english,dutch and spanish.
At the end of the tour you can get up to the highest tower for a real cool view of the landscape.
