Neudahn Castle — Attraction in Dahner Felsenland

My first trip to Germany in the early 80's was a 2 week trip with my US Army National Guard unit. We stayed in Dahn at an old army camp, Camp Dahn 2. Across the street was this castle ruins. I have been trying to find it. I took a lot of photos with my Kodak Instamatic camera. I wish I could find the photos, but it's been so long ago. I remember climbing up to the top of the tower.

I think the business across the road is where the camp was. It looks like the layout minus the barracks. I remember crossing the main road and walking to the ruins.

During our middle weekend, I took a tour of Bavaria. It was an amazing experience.

I was in Germany for a month in June, 24. I wish I had found this before or while I was visiting again. I will have to come back to Germany again soon and go...

Loved this castle! So beautiful and well preserved. You can access both towers and there are 2-3 levels you can explore. The hike up is relatively quick but a bit on the steep side. If bringing smaller children I would definitely suggest a hiking carrier. We used the trail that runs along the train tracks and just parked up the road and walked. This castle is part of a tour and I believe in a circular trail that takes you to Altdahn. However the sign said that was 4.6km away so we just explored these ruins then headed home. There's a Shell gas station along the way as well as this cute bakery...

Burg Neudahn, vom Parkplatz am Neudahner-Weiher aus sehr gut über mehrere Wege erreichbar. Wie fast alle Burgen ganz oben auf dem Berg gelegen heißt es, es geht etwas steiler nach oben. Jedoch für den Wanderer machbar. Oben angekommen ergibt sich eine tolle Aussicht auf die Umgebung, auf jeden Fall sollte man sich kein Winkel der Burgruine entgehen lassen. Beide Türme sind mit neuen Wendeltreppen aus Beton versehen somit ist auch ein sicheres betreten möglich und man kommt dadurch in verschiedene Räume. Aber gleich darauf einstellen: nur die Treppen im Hauptturm mit dem man das obere der Burg betritt, führen auch wieder nach unten in`s freie. Der Anstieg über den Planetenweg, ( Radweg Hinterweidental – Wissenburg FR. ) führt direkt am Felsentor vorbei. Über den rundweg Richtung Dahn kann man sich gerne an der „ Lindenbruch Quelle“ erfrischen. HINWEIS: Für alle meine Wanderungen gilt: Dem Gelände angepasstes Schuhwerk, dem jeweiligen Wetter entsprechende Kleidung. Trittsicherheit ist auf jeden Fall Voraussetzung Nicht geeignet, wenn nicht Schwindelfrei. Nicht für Kinder und Hunde geeignet. Bei der Tourenplanung unbedingt das Wetter abfragen. Manche Felsen / Aussichtsplattformen oder auch Burgen und Schlösser sind bei aufkommend schlechtem Wetter nicht begehbar. TIP: GUT GEHT…..WEHR...
