Kanji Wetland, also known as Kanjli Wetland, is a popular nature reserve located in Kapurthala, Punjab, India. It is a wetland ecosystem that attracts a wide variety of bird species and offers a peaceful and serene environment for visitors to enjoy. The wetland is spread across a vast area and is primarily known for its rich biodiversity. It serves as a significant habitat for migratory birds, especially during the winter season when numerous species from different parts of the world visit the wetland. Birdwatchers and nature enthusiasts will be delighted by the opportunity to spot and observe these beautiful winged creatures in their natural habitat. The wetland features lush greenery, shallow water bodies, and marshy areas, creating a perfect ecosystem for aquatic plants, animals, and birds. It provides an ideal environment for birds like herons, egrets, ducks, geese, cranes, and many more. The sight of these birds in their vibrant plumage and their graceful movements is truly a treat for bird lovers. Visitors to Kanji Wetland can explore the area through walking trails or by boat rides, allowing them to get closer to the natural surroundings. The wetland offers a peaceful and tranquil atmosphere, away from the hustle and bustle of city life. It is an excellent place for photography, nature walks, and bird watching, providing ample opportunities to capture breathtaking moments and create lasting memories. The wetland is well-maintained, with proper infrastructure for visitors, including observation decks, seating areas, and informative signage about the flora and fauna. Additionally, there are knowledgeable guides available who can provide insights into the various bird species and the importance of wetland conservation. While the wetland is mainly known for its birdlife, it also supports a diverse range of plant species, insects, and small mammals, contributing to the overall ecological balance of the area. The conservation efforts in preserving the wetland have been commendable, ensuring the long-term sustainability of this precious natural habitat. It's important to note that the best time to visit Kanji Wetland is during the winter months (November to March), when the migratory birds are present in abundance. However, it's advisable to check local bird migration patterns and confirm the ideal visiting time for the best birdwatching experience. Overall, Kanji Wetland in Kapurthala offers a wonderful opportunity to connect with nature, observe magnificent bird species, and appreciate the beauty of a thriving wetland ecosystem.

I've never seen such a polluted place hyped up as a wetland before. This place has no business being called a Wetland or a Ramsar site. Dirty, polluted and choking with water hyacinths and religious debris. The rivulet is venerated as the water body in which Guru Nanak Dev Ji attained enlightenment. But the way it has been allowed to be polluted and ignored by public and government, no one can imagine anyone getting into this water body today, let alone attain any sort of spiritual fulfillment. As for the migratory birds, there were none. This place left me appalled, disillusioned and dismayed at the state of affairs of ecologically and religiously important places in Punjab. Avoid going - there's nothing to see.

The place was a local tourist attraction in the 90’s but since has been deteriorating. There had been some efforts by the government to revive it but none were much successful. There is a small staff here which takes care of the place and of some ducks and rabbits they have. The ticket cost was Rs 50. It wasn’t as bad as people said. Sure, there was religious stuff in the water but that’s public’s responsibility to not put it there. Water hyacinth is everywhere. There had been attempts to root them all out but it’s a stubborn plant which grows exponentially even when one bud remains underwater.

Kanjli Wetland, a man made Wetland, which subsumes the Kanjli Lake, located in the Kapurthala district of Punjab state in India, was created in 1870 by constructing the headworks across the perennial Bien River, a tributary of the Beas River to provide irrigation facilities to the hinterland. The rich biodiversity of the wetland comprising aquatic, mesophytic and terrestrial flora and fauna including some important species of plants and animals was recognized internationally by the Ramsar Convention in 2002 by designating the Kanjli Lake in the List of Wetlands of International Importance.2] In this context, it is reported that the Punjab State which has 14 wetlands covering an area of 225.76 km2 (2% of the geographical area of the State) has the unique position of three of its wetlands viz., the Kanjli Wetland covering an area of 490 ha of which the Kanjli Lake water spread is 184 ha), the Harike Wetland (4100 ha) and the Ropar Wetland (1365 ha) chosen by the Ministry of Environment and Forest (MoE&F), Government of India for their conservation and management are now also included in the Ramsar list covering a total area of 5650 ha; Kanjli is upstream of Harike wetland located in the Beas river basin while the Ropar wetland is in the...

A peaceful place on kapurthala Subhanpur road. Tributary of beas. Kanjli wetland is a natural eco zone. It also has some religious sentimental value. One can visit early morning to evening. As it is 3 kilometer away from kapurthala city and surrounded by woods it is lonely place after 7pm in summers. Boating facility is suspended since 2014. You can view some ducks and other birds there. Kanjli wetland among ropar and harike wetland which are identified and certified by Ramsa international wetland and ecological place. There is no food point at this place. There is a dhaba 800 meter away from this place where you can eat . Best time to visit is early morning in winter as you can view and experience dew rain early in the morning. And in summers afternoon is the quite good time. Autumn and spring is also good time. Deer and peacocks can be seen rarely. Fishing is also allowed if you have license. There is under construction building which once started to promote this wetland but was later project was dismissed. Kanjli Wetland is good place to visit if you are looking for solitude. People sometimes interrupt you. In December And January birds migrated From Siberia can...
