The place is very unique for its crystal clear aquifers and springs. The colour of the water is almost transparent and becomes even more enchanting with the variation in the weather and varying natural light. The walk way to the springs is a short one and doesn't require high fitness levels. The stream along the walkway makes for a very scenic experience. The Te Waihou walkway starts from Leslie road and ends at Whites road. Moderate fitness is required to complete some sections of the otherwise easy walkway. The Waihou river along side the walk way is a picturesque sight and enjoyable. The rapids make for a nice sight and a thrilling experience in the otherwise calm and scenic walkway. The either ends of the walk way are easily accessible by road and have decent number of car parking spaces. Although it can get really busy on weekends and holidays. Very highly...

Gorgeous views and a light, peaceful walk. It was very nice except that it didn't last very long. We got just a little ways in and the walkway was blocked because they are putting a small 4 inch "rail" along the edges. This was mid-December 2024. We could have gone off trail and gotten around it, but wanted to respect their barrier. Everything we found online said it was open further than that, so we were disappointed to not go further. We got just a few bug bites along the way, so maybe be prepared for that, not bad though. There were also some nice, big redwoods along the way. There were a dozen or less other small groups, but it wasn't...

It's a nice walk but not really pram friendly. If you have a toddler you might have to carry them as the road is gravelly and there were some pockets of the trail that were so mucky and squelchy (because of the rain) that you had to take support of the thing wire along the fence to avoid slipping and sliding (unless you enjoy walking straight through the squelch ๐Ÿ˜Š). There was also a patch of cattle grazing which was good but not good as we were charged by the bulls as they thought our pram was a bull! It was scary for all of us! We didn't manage to do the whole track but about 3/4th and it was some...

We had visited Hobbiton, and then after lunch we headed to the Te Waihou Walkway. It was a recommended location in the Hobbit Locations book I bought recently. It was never used, but the location was suggested as a river that could have appeared in the film. I walked the whole length of the walk (8km). The river was fastish flowing in some areas slow elsewhere. It featured some lovely colours of green and blue. Letโ€™s hope the pictures do the colours justice. R sat & spotted parakeets & kingfishers while I did the last half. There is parking at either end, so if you get the cars organised you can walk one way.
