The Main Town Hall in Gdańsk, located on Długi Targ (Long Market), is one of the most iconic and historic buildings in the city. It was originally constructed in the late 14th century and has been expanded and renovated over the centuries, reflecting the rich architectural and cultural history of Gdańsk. Its Gothic and Renaissance elements make it a masterpiece of Northern European architecture. The tower, standing over 80 meters high, offers a panoramic view of Gdańsk, and the building houses the Historical Museum of Gdańsk, where you can explore exhibits related to the city's history. The richly decorated Great Council Hall (Red Hall), with its stunning ceiling paintings and sculptures, is one of the building’s highlights. The Main Town Hall has survived numerous historical upheavals, including destruction during World War II, but it was meticulously restored to its former glory.
Museum that is worth visiting when in Gdansk to see its collection of keepsakes presenting the history of Gdansk from the Middle Ages up to the 20th Century. This museum is located in the historic town hall built in the 14th century. The interior courtyard is amazing - the Great Council Hall and Red Hall with its impressive fireplace and ceilings paintings. The 2nd floor houses exhibitions related to antique furnitures and silver pieces. The top floor features imitations of old Gdansk interiors. Here you can also access the Town Hall's Tower Clock that is 81.5 meters high. It is worth climbing to the top of the tower for great views across the city. #letsguide, #poland, #gdansk, #visitgdansk, #oldtown, #royalroute, #touristattraction, #landmark, #museum, #townhall, #fireplace, #ceilingpaintings, #antiquefurniture, #silverpieces, #towerlock, #greatviews, #panoramicview
It is a fascinating place to learn about the history of Gdańsk, Poland. The building itself is a beautiful example of Gothic and Renaissance architecture, and it houses a variety of exhibits that tell the story of the city from its beginnings to the present day. Construction on the building began in 1346 and was completed in 1358. There is also the tower of the Town Hall that offers panoramic views of Gdańsk. The museum also houses a collection of archaeological finds, paintings, and sculptures. If you are interested in history, architecture, or Polish culture, then the Museum of Gdańsk is a must-see. The museum is open from 10:00 AM to 6:00 PM, Wednesday to Sunday. Admission is 25 PLN for adults, 15 PLN for students, and free for children under 7 years old. There is also a guided tour available in English.
The history museum is located in the heart of the city, very easy to reach. Although the place looks small inside it is full of exclusive paintings of the city and some private artists. In the first room there are paintings of the first kings of Poland. In the second room and for my taste one of the most impressive, from wall to wall and up to the ceiling. In the museum we can find information about how the rulers lived and also how the beginning of the war was lived, they show us the costumes of the sailors as well as the scale war tanks. This museum has a little bit of everything and is a walk full of information and also a delight to lovers of art and antique objects, a sample from ancient times before the war and after.
Gdansk History Museum is a wonderful way to check out the rich and varied history of this fascinating city. Located in the stunning Old Town on one of its most famous and beautiful streets namely Ul Długa and housed in the magnificent Town Hall one of the most exquisite pieces of architecture in the Old Town, it's a great place to visit. For a small entrance fee you can view beautifully decorative rooms,a great silverware collection and soak up the rich history of this city ,it's not a big museum but it's size means you can take in most of the exhibits and if your not into the museum itself you have the magnificent views afforded from the tower of the beautiful city of Gdansk. Well worth checking out.
Definitely include this museum in your to-do-list in Gdansk. It is located in the former (historical) city-hall, the 'red room' itself is the real highlight of this strong museum. This room alone is already worth the price for the museum. The tour starts in the main councilroom, followed by the 'Red Room' with its splendid ceiling. The best way to absorb this ceiling is actually to lay down on the ground. Other parts of the museum exposes beautiful furniture from the past (especially some wooden clossets are impressive), temporarily exhibition and finally an part about WO II. It takes max. one hour to visit this museum.
