Having heard so much about the Singapore Zoo it was always a dream of mine to bring my daughters here one day. We actually met a lovely father and daughter from Singapore at the airport earlier in our trip and they told us if we ever went we should do all three attractions in one day — the Singapore Zoo River Wonders and the Night Safari. I am so glad we took their advice. Just a few days before we had finally figured out the MRT system which made the journey much easier. We took the MRT all the way changed to two buses and arrived right at the zoo. We bought passes that included all three parks. My daughters five and six years old were so excited it was absolutely contagious. We were welcomed by beautiful orchids at the entrance and grabbed the Snoopy map booklet which the girls loved following. We took the tram several times and saw so many animals — turtles crocodiles monkeys baboons orangutans lions elephants zebras giraffes rhinos hippos meerkats cheetahs birds of all kinds and reptiles like Komodo dragons. The lush layout and open enclosures made it feel more like a walk through the rainforest than a traditional zoo. For lunch we had a great variety of food. My husband had tandoori chicken with roti. The girls had noodle soup with chicken wontons and fish and chips. I had the laksa. Everything was absolutely delicious. Next up was River Wonders. The massive aquarium really impressed the kids. The giant pandas were a major highlight so adorable and fun to watch. Then we headed to the Amazon River Quest ride. My five year old did not meet the height requirement which was a bit disappointing for her but my six year old went twice once with her dad and once with me. She was thrilled especially sitting right in front. We also got to see the penguins which brought back memories from our Antarctica cruise. From there we took a bus to the bird sanctuary and were blown away by how many beautiful birds we saw. We caught the Wings of the World show and even got front row seats. The girls were fascinated by the giant ostrich eggs and had so much fun posing inside the giant nest and in front of the wings sculpture pretending to be birds. We finished our day with the Night Safari. Although the queue was long it moved surprisingly fast. Riding the tram in the dark was an incredible experience. Seeing the animals in their nighttime setting was something truly special. The lions and the elephant mascot Sang Raja stood out the most. By the end we were all tired and hungry so we stayed and ate at the park. We all had satay and the girls also had chicken nuggets and fries. I had the Singapore chicken rice and really enjoyed it. This day was everything I hoped for and more. It was a full day of fun learning and unforgettable memories with my family. Highly recommend doing the full trio if you can.
Singapore Zoo Review We really enjoyed the visit to the zoo! Booking was done online via the Mandai wildlife reserve website as well as the Mandai wildlife shuttlebus service website. Tickets were relatively easy to get although the loading time for the shuttle bus website was quite slow.
We set off from Tampines Hub via the Mandai shuttle bus service. there were two timings; we took the earlier 8:45 am bus. Getting on was quite quick and straightforward but I recommend reaching a bit early to secure your seat because it seemed like there was an over-booking issue: Some families came and claimed to have bought a ticket but the bus was already full.
We arrived at Singapore zoo at around 9:30 am. There was already a crowd starting to form but it did not take us too long to get through the gantry and enter. Once inside we started to enjoy the exhibits, as well as the presentations! We particularly enjoyed the presentations, the first one being "Splash Safari"and the other being "the Rainforest Fights back".
It was nice to see all the different types of animals all over the world via exhibits like Australasia, Ethiopia, Wild Africa, Primate Forest, and Fragile Forest. For us, the highlight exhibit was Fragile Forest; you could explore the area and see freeroaming animals up close. However, be careful and watch your head while there! for possible unwelcome surprises from the birds flying around there!
In each of those exhibits you could see a variety of animals and they all look very well cared for and clean and generally relaxed and happy. The rangers/keepers were very professionals and pleasant. I quite enjoyed following them on tours as they explained and talked about the animals.
One minor concern that we had was at the rhinoceros exhibits; many of them had small wounds that seem to be caused by the birds pecking at them. We don't know whether this is natural and expected, but it was a bit concerning to see. Having said that, the Rhinos did not seem bothered by them/ didn't seem to care.
We had booked the 300pm bus back to Tampines and boarded at the same place we alighted. The whole trip took us about 5.5 hours. That duration is quite comfortable for us to visit pretty much every exhibit (we skipped lunch after a heavy breakfast), and we were pretty much ready to leave by then. However, if you want a chiller whole-day visit, I would suggest staying till 5pm (around 7-8 hours).
Pack snacks, an umbrella, a hat, your water bottle, and a fan! The whole reserve was quite humid and warm even when it's drizzling. Snacks and water will be good as little energy boosts as you walk around.
Overall we had a super enjoyable time! Highly recommend for people looking to explore wildlife and be in a bit of nature for a while.
