Castle Hallwyl — Attraction in Seengen

Nice telling of the history of the Hallwyl family and Schloss. We really enjoyed our visit. Don't miss the mill! Displays are well done--you can read in either German or English--but I recommend the free audio guide so you can listen while you walk around and look at the artifacts. At first it's not clear how to walk through the rooms but you'll quickly catch on to the pattern. This was interesting… The entry fee is 14.- for adults. If 26 yo you only pay 10.- We got the audio guide (free of charge) and made our way around the castle. The tour was informative, but the audio guide is quite unnecessary if you speak/read German. Also there are already some spots where audio info is given as well. Ich bin ehrlich schockiert über die Regelung, dass man das Bistro im Schloss Hallwil nur besuchen kann, wenn man zuerst Eintritt fürs Schloss bezahlt. Ich wollte lediglich im Bistro etwas über die Gasse kaufen – also keinen Museumsbesuch, sondern ganz einfach etwas konsumieren – doch an der Kasse wurde mir mitgeteilt, dass das ohne Eintritt nicht möglich sei.

Das ist nicht nur kundenunfreundlich, sondern wirtschaftlich völlig unverständlich. In einer Zeit, in der viele kleine Betriebe um jeden Gast froh sind, wird hier freiwillig auf Umsatz verzichtet. Offenbar ist der finanzielle Druck nicht gross genug, wenn man sich erlauben kann, zahlungsbereite Gäste abzuweisen.

Noch problematischer finde ich, dass es sich hier um eine öffentlich finanzierte Institution handelt. Das Schloss Hallwil wird mit Steuergeldern getragen – also mit unserem Geld. Es wäre im Interesse des Kantons und der Bevölkerung, einen möglichst wirtschaftlich sinnvollen Betrieb sicherzustellen. Stattdessen verschwendet man Potenzial und verschreckt Gäste, die einzig das Bistro besuchen möchten. So sieht keine verantwortungsvolle Nutzung öffentlicher Mittel aus.

Ich bin mit Sicherheit nicht der Einzige, der diese Praxis inakzeptabel findet – ein Blick in andere Rezensionen zeigt deutlich, dass sich viele Besucher daran stören. Schade um ein eigentlich schönes Ausflugsziel, das sich durch solche Regelungen selbst schadet. Hoffentlich findet hier bald ein Umdenken statt – im Sinne der Steuerzahlenden und der vielen...
