A beautiful unspoilt country park 15 minutes from the centre of Romford.
Free parking is available, but it does get busy at weekend. Parking is on compressed soil, and it has quite a few potholes, especially during the winter. The park may not be accessible for some people who have disabilities, especially wheelchair users.
There is a visitor centre providing a small cafe (run by volunteers on behalf of the Essex Wildlife Trust) and a shop selling items for the garden and home. Toliets are available when the visitor centre is open. There are no other toilets in the park.
There is also a deer enclosure and children like to stand by the fence and watch the deer.
At the southern end of the park there is a lake and it is popular with people who enjoy fishing.
Bedfords Park also houses a walled garden, it is maintained by volunteers and it is open on Tuesday...

The wooden children's playground is great for ages up to 9/10. Bucket swing, monkey bars, toddler swings, wooden bridge, climbing logs/frames.
Once the kids agree to leave the playground (easily play here for over an hour, right by the free carpark) you can head to the deers.
The walk from the car is less than 10 mins to the gated area where the Deers are.
On a good day you can see up to 10! Theyre friendly and love carrots and apples.
Not to far again, there is the main cafe/toilets (never sure of their opening hours though!). This sits at a higher point of the grounds, and you get amazing views of some London skyline. Here we picnic or the kids play football on a sloping landscape :)
A great way to...
Read moreThis is a gorgeous place to visit at all times of year but especially in spring with the bluebell blanket covering the forest floor. We spent a lot of time here during the pandemic and even without the visitor centre or the playground open it is easy to spend a couple of hours wandering through the forest. We tend to walk into the forest to the right of the main carpark (or park on the road leading down and head across the big field), as its quieter and the woods are so peaceful. However, the visitor centre is good from what I remember and the deer are tame-ish and will accept a carrot through the fence. There are lots of routes and little hidden paths you can almost lose your way for a while, so considering how relatively close this is to Romford it's a surprisingly...
