This is one of my favorite rides at Animal Kingdom. The story set up in the clever pre-show, after a museum-like queue area, is very simple--there's a time-traveling tourist service to the age of the dinosaurs, but thanks to one scientist's ambitious meddling, Things Go Wrong. You're pursued by a peeved Carnotaur, and there are only seconds to go before the big asteroid strike that will draw the curtain on the age of the dinosaurs.
Along with elaborate set dressing and big, detailed audio-animatronics, this ride uses the same ride system (and almost the same track layout) as Disneyland's Indiana Jones ride: there are jeep-like cars that run at variable speed along a track, but each car also incorporates a motion bed that allows it to shake and tilt under ride control, to simulate moving over rough terrain. The result is a wild, bumpy ride, as much a thrill ride as a dark ride. For a 1990s ride this was astonishingly technically advanced; it's still impressive today.
Parents with young children should note that, despite the low height limit, this is one of the scariest rides at Disney World: it's dark and very loud, some of the animatronic dinosaurs are frightening, and the vehicle bumps and jerks around with, at times, a surprising sensation of speed. The little ones may leave crying.
For the same reason, though, older kids seeking bigger thrills than what most of Disney World can provide...
Read moreI have to say I have ridden this ride several times in the past with no issues and will ride it again and definitely recommend trying it out. For us on this experience it wasn't fun or magical at all. Waiting for rides we can completely understand and it was miserably hot. But that's not on them. After waiting over an hour in a 55min queue when got onto the ride. As the ride started it shut down and the lights all came on. We sat waiting for another 10-15 minutes and then the ride started again and went about 15 feet before stopping again and the lights coming back on. Service people came by to to checks on our vehicles and we then waited a little longer. The ride started back with no sound or lights and started to somewhat work about a quarter of the way in. The dinosaur at the end did nothing. Fortunately for us we know the ride and are familiar with it. But the rest of the people riding in our car got a awful first experience of the ride. So basically the ride wasted almost 2 hours of our park day literally and nothing was done or offered to any of us. Usually they would give a fast pass back in the day to make you feel a...
Read moreA cute ride for kids and adults alike. This attraction is inside Animal Kingdom requiring you to have access to the park (i.e. you need to buy or have tickets to get into the park). The location is in the back of the Dinoland part of the park and next to the Finding Nemo: The Big Blue... and Beyond theater. It has a very nice entrance with several dinosaur exhibits and fossils if you are waiting in line. Like most of the attractions, it has a lightning lane and a regular lane. There is a pre-show where they set the stage for the story. You are part of a group traveling back before the dinosaur extinction event. A well-wishing scientist wants you to bring back a dinosaur when you return. From that point, you are loaded into cars resembling jeeps with no tops, no doors, and 3 rows of seats fitting 4 people across. Then you are off through dark spaces and encountering various dinosaurs along the way. It is a very bumpy ride so I would only recommend it for people in good health without back or neck problems. It is a cute ride that finishes with a walk through the gift shop where you can also view...
