Great local Zoo in Bridgeton, New Jersey, that it is considered the first zoo in the state, I've been visiting almost every two years or so since early 2000's. Although it is a free admission zoo, I always love to leave donations for the maintenance and the care of the awesome animals in captivity there, that I consider true ambassadors of their species and habitats, it inspires everyone to have more empathy and care for all creatures and the places they call home. Besides the animals, the zoo layout and the walkways are clean, full of vegetation and waters, small lakes/wetlands. The zoo offers other great activities for all ages such as camps, run for animals’ marathon, keeper chats is all Summer, education center etc., for more info please visit the zoo's website, and all the positive reviews here. Cohanzick zoo have and had a great collection of cute animals over the years, presently: Bengal tigers, Asiatic bear, white-handed gibbon, mountain lions, fennec foxes, spotted and black leopards, serval, red river hogs, wallaby, pot-bellied pig, African crested porcupine, lemurs, peacocks, several species of birds and more. And since I had the honor to meet the white Bengal tigress Ganesha that was "transferred" to the tiger's heaven since 2015, I had to include a few pictures of her, great memories watching her playing in the swimming pool inside her enclosure with big rubber ball and a big chunk of ice. Highly recommended little zoo to visit, anyone that can afford to put it on your bucket list and donate, take your young ones to learn about our valuable earth resources and the conservation efforts of...
Read moreWhat a wonderful surprise! The zoo was actually bigger than it first appeared upon entering. The exhibits were clean and some quite spacious given the size of the zoo.
We visited today, Monday, and there were no concessions or a gift shop, but we came prepared with our own rations. We had just missed a children's show that was for 1p.
The staff were friendly and available throughout our visit, one gentleman even gave our crying daughter a peacock feather! She lost it but enjoyed it while it was hers to keep.
The entire visit took about 1.5hrs which was great. They offer plenty of spots to sit and tables to eat. There were also large statues of a bear and a gorilla with built in seats. Perfect for taking a photo!
The coup de grace was the splash park which appeared closed, but was in fact OPEN!
$8 for my daughter and I to have a romping 45 minutes of wet and wild fun! The splash pad was surprisingly expansive and could accommodate a large crowd of 95 if need be. There were pavilions with picnic tables and benches placed around the play area. Also, restroom facilities and an outdoor shower to rinse off with nice WARM water.
The mini golf however was uninviting and appeared to be an afterthought. It was overgrown with weeds and the course looked more industrial than verdant green. There were some people playing there, but it just didn't appeal to us.
Either way what a wonderful way to spend the afternoon. ...
Read moreWe Visited for Mother’s Day and it was a nice little outing. The zoo is free and they ask for donations, which we gave. It seemed like they really could use a lot more donations.
The path was nice and we enjoyed walking it with our toddler, but at many of the cages we couldn’t figure out if they were actually animals inside. Some of them had labels but I think the animals might have been in the indoor cages. Some might have been removed from their cages, or maybe we just couldn’t see them. There were a ton of turkey vultures and peacocks around though.
It looked like they could use some help and donations to support the general maintenance and upkeep of the property, like raking leaves from the paths and repairing wooden walkways and removing downed branches. Some of the cages, like the tiger and leopard seemed like they might be small for the size of the...
