The park was nice. The staff working in the entrance booth was friendly and helpful. The sites were reasonably sized. There was water access from the park. It was clean and the setting was comfortable. The sites closer to the road have some noise from the traffick, but it wasn't too bad. We visited family staying at a site in that area and did notice some noise, but after a short time it was easy to ignore. There is a trail to the beach. You can also take a walk along a paved area under the bridge to get to the other nearby lake.

One issue that I experienced, but that I am not sure if it was the park staff or someone that was contracted: I went to take a shower at around 6:50am. I didn't know that they come in to clean at 7am. I was trying to dry off and get dressed when I heard a man's voice in the bathroom. It may have been coming through the vent, as the workers were talking to each other, but no one announced that they were there to clean. I didn't know what was happening. The woman cleaning the showers seemed irritated that I was there. She used a pressure washer in the stall next to me and i was covered with cleaner. I asked if she was there cleaning (she still hadn't said anything). She told me that she was, but allowed me to wash the cleaner off before I left in a towel. I apologized and said that I didn't realize that the bathroom was cleaned at that time. She told me that there were signs posted all over. She was pretty rude. My husband and I looked and never were able to find the signs that she mentioned. Overall it was a good experience, but that was not which is my reason for the 4 starts (otherwise, it...

Yes. I've REALLY had it with the way Mitchell disrupts our camping experience. There's an older guy, big, with white hair & always wearing a hat. He drives a STINKY, NOISY gator cart all around the campground endlessly. Burning our TAXPAYER dollars!! Everyone was starring. He'll drive it right in front of your site through the grass, in front of lake, on the roads, all without purpose!!! Almost never do I see him checking anything. It's not noting who is checking out, or who needs mowed. I check for those considerations. The last time we were there, he drove right up into our site & right to the fire pit. WE.WERE.STANDING.RIGHT. THERE!!!! It was 11:20AM!!!! Checkout is 1pm!!!! We had NO fire, no smoke. Im sure he was looking to see if there was unburned fire wood they could resell. I was flabbergasted!! And exceptionally irritated!!! I suspect he did this because he saw me starring at him, constantly driving around by us.

Additionally Mitchell specifically, doesn't coordinate their mowing. They'll mow by you, then go to the other side of the park, only to come back to another site nearby that was empty to begin with, to mow that site!! They should've mowed the whole empty area at once!! This makes for a VERRRRY aggravating "vacation". NO peace & quiet at Mitchell!! Other state parks don't operate this way. Its completely senseless!

It makes private campgrounds & seasonal sites look that much more appealing!!! Less...

First time here, and we were very pleased with the stay. It’s located on a busy main road, but it wasn’t an issue. If anything, the location gives you easy access to all the great things the area has to offer. The campground was perfectly situated, giving us the opportunity to do some day trips to Ludington, Manistee, Frankfort and Traverse City. The campground had very nice clean restrooms and sheer facilities. The staff are friendly and knowledgeable, happy to help you with anything you need. The camping spaces are nice and wide, giving plenty of room for a camper, tent and two vehicles without feeling too crowded. One of the best features for me had to be the nice walkway under the bridge that led to the park and beach. It led under the nearby main road, giving families safe and easy access. Nice spots for fishing, playground, and volleyball courts. Finally, don’t miss out on the incredible trails right across the street at the hunting and fishing center. It was right around 3 miles of beautiful nature preserve. It has a perfect mix of woodland and marshland, complete with some great areas to do some...

We really enjoyed our stay at Mitchell State Park. We came on a Friday evening and stayed until the following Tuesday. The campsites are clean and well taken care of. There is a fire pit and a picnic table on each site. There are multiple freshwater stations throughout the campground. There are very clean bathrooms and bath houses for showers available. Everyone we visited here, including the park ranger, were super friendly! We were close to everything in the town of Cadillac which was nice when we needed to run to the Walmart or Meijer for groceries and snacks. There were also plenty of hiking trails nearby as well as parks. The state park is dog friendly and there were tons of dogs around. We enjoyed our time spent there very much! Thank you!

During the summer make sure to make advance reservations. Weekend spots without reservations during summer almost impossible to get in. After Labor Day much easier. On busy days and weekends you might have issues getting larger rigs in to spots. Takes a lot of maneuvering and patients. Lovely campground well maintained. Great to be on 2 lakes. Under road walk through by canal to get from one lake to another. The canal is in Guinness Book of World Records! Awesome sunsets. Before warned, garbage is emptied at 4:30 to 530 am. Can hear the clanging throughout the campground. That's the only negative. It's such a great campground lots of locals camp there and go to work through the summer. Many family/group camps too. 2 great cabins as well.

We’ve been camping in Michigan state parks since 1993. They have some good ones and some bad ones. This place ranks near the top of the “good list”. Depending on where your site is, you might hear a little road noise, but that’s fine with me. Helps drown me out. 😏. It’s not that bad. No different than staying at Traverse City. Park staff is great. The entire park is virtually spotless. Very well maintained. Not sure if they do this on normal big check out days like Sunday, but we left on Labor Day after staying 4 nights. I was dreading the line at the dump station, but it was all for nothing. They had staff directing campers to both of their dump stations so the whole process went as smooth as anyone could ask for.
