Illini Union Bookstore — Attraction in Champaign

I now live in Virginia. Since leaving UIUC in 1991, I have greatly missed the place. One item has been a source of comfort for me: The I Book, which I used to keep myself organized at Illinois and throughout my teaching career. Now retired, I still purchase an I Book every year to keep myself organized. I called my order in today, Sunday, June 3, and spoke to a remarkably friendly and efficient young lady named Janee. The Bookstore has pretty much all the semester books you might be looking for but, the best part is, it has so much more than just books. It has 3 floors in all. The top most floor is the general merchandise where you can find hoodies and Illinois tees. The main floor has stationery, starbucks (yes, STARBUCKS), nike clothes section along with miscellanies. The bottom most floor has all the semester books and is very crowded in the start of the semesters (you will barely have place to move). You can also sit and study there. Meet a friend and...

I’m visiting the university to determine if it’s the right place for me to complete my final degree. I was impressed with how the bookstore space is utilized—the open atmosphere is inviting, and it seems to be a popular spot for students to gather and work.

The only drawback is the limited size options for shirts and sweatshirts, as larger sizes don’t seem to be available. Additionally, despite the variety of hats, only one is a flex-fit. While this isn’t a dealbreaker for my decision, I would love to see a few...
