This gym is decent for the most part. I really like that the Cardio is upper floors and the weight training is downstairs, to separate the two. Women area only is a great idea and nice pool, wallball rooms, and Sauna amenities. Gym is pretty spacious and cool smoothie place in the back. It was nice when they would go around and give samples. That didn't personally annoyed me and appreciate the gesture.
Front staff were pretty cool and they are friendly and greets you, actually, most of the time I've been there. Small things like that is appreciated!
Locker rooms were decent in the Men side speaking. But it's weird they have the first area coming in with two table-like seatings and the others just one. Naturally, more people like that first area cause there is more room to sit and set your stuff down. Would it be hard to get a bigger table if can't accommodate two? It's like this gym doesn't really go out there ways at times to make things better for it's member or do minimal things in my experience, which seems to be a common thing here.
They should really look into taking care of their equipments more, because like 70% of the Cardio machines barely works. It's annoying to switch treadmills (if any available at the moment) because it won't elevate, the belt is too slippery, or the speed buttons are jammed. Gym's making banks, but can't invest in y'all equipments or maintenance?
Sometimes it takes forever to get something repaired. The water fountain in the Men locker room has been slow for more than a year I've been there versus how it is outside. It's takes a good minute or so just to fill up my bottle rather like less than 10 seconds outside. I mentioned this a couple of times but nothing really changed. Do we have to say something for y'all to notice something not working as intended?
Weights need to be put back often because you can't as hell count the members to do so lol. Also to enforce more to stop slamming the weights because it takes more strength and infinitely more impressive with controlled form versus vice versa. Most of the time they aren't heavy weights smh. Maybe have better education for the new members joining in decent gym etiquettes and why they are effective. Things like put back the weights where you found them, don't hog multiple equipments, etc. More people need to know, and other than the gym, like you won't be hearing from LA very much within the App nor email. I feel can make the gym a better place and we can be more productive and mindful in our workouts and unto others.
As far as cleanliness, it's good for the most part. I don't see sweats everywhere and the floor looks dry. Maybe the showers can use some bleaching more often cause it can look dirty. And the Saunas are not too bad nor wet everywhere all the time. Don't know if y'all use air fresheners or clean good, but the gym doesn't smell bad.
But it's really annoying if there is no paper towels at times. Like really, it's not worth the effort to keep these in stock for your members? It becomes unhygienic really quick. At least they have sanitizing sprays handy consistently.
This LA was closer to home and I like the placement of the equipments and division of the sections versus other gyms. Price I paid for a single club was reasonable and I never really have an issue in safety whether in the gym or outside. No shootouts or too crowded like Fitness Connection lol and they maintain a decent amount of atmosphere I guess.
It's not 24 hrs (y'all remember 24 hrs places not actually 24/7 lol) but the latest hrs is up to 11pm M-T, 10pm on Friday (one hr difference for some reason), and 8pm on Sat and Sun (a little early in my opinion).
I really think announcing over the speakers when the gyms about to close not too effective, cause most of us have head/ear phones on. Have a visible signal like blinking lights 30 min prior rather 5 min and the TV upstairs showing a timer or something.
It can definitely be better, but wanted to share my honest experience and what I think so far from that date...
Read moreI had written a review for this location before and gave it 4 stars. Now I will give this gym 1 star. I will change my review and give this location 5 stars as this is my favorite gym, on the condition that the long standing issues are properly addressed in a timely manner.
The average rating for 9 LA Fitness gyms in the Houston area is 2.63 stars. CORPORATE: If you are reading this, you should be concerned. This equals to a D+/C average. Do you want to be just average?
I have been coming to this gym since 2008 and this gym has been the same since then. Not only me but 4 members of my family and I have a signature membership. So for the past 8 years I've paid close to $4000.00 to come to this gym. So multiply that by 5 and you will get a close approximate on how much my family and I have spent at LA fitness.
After I use a piece of equipment or free weight I make sure I return the machine to its original condition (remove and re rack ALL the weights on it, even if it had weights on it initially), and also put the free weight dumbbell/barbell to its original location. I do this without fail every single time. And also picking up weights left by inconsiderate selfie takers.
Recently I've noticed the staff re rack the weights here and there and I am grateful to them for it. However, this positive behavior is not consistent. I am not a person to tell someone how to do their job but I believe I should make it a point now to do so.
Secondly, the issue of the gym patrons that just throw weights around (I don't mean dropping weights after a heavy set). I mean the people who will use a whole bunch of weights and just leave it there. My advice to you is, if you cannot re rack the weights, do not use the weights. Obviously you may be too weak to do so. Stick to your 10 lb dead lifts and make sure you re rack the 10 lb plate afterwards. Same goes for all the dumbells and plates. Just put them back. Not only will you be making sure you are being courteous to others, you will get an extra workout.
I have elderly parents that go to this gym and I do not want them to lift a 45 lb plate off a chest press machine just so they can put a 25lb plate on there. It's not right. Young ones, you are strong enough to do this...be a good boy/girl.
This brings me to another point. The weights are always missing. There are 9 places where there should be a bar. This includes the following:
6 bench press areas 3 squat/multipurpose racks
Yesterday (9/19/2016) I have noticed only 3 bars for 9 areas where there should be bars. Where are all the bars? People cannot be stealing bars.....Please make sure all equipment which require bars have bars on them.
Broken equipment does not get fixed in a timely manner. Why not? Is it because corporate is not sending someone to fix it? Or not giving you newer equipment? I don't buy this, please make sure that all your equipment is in good working order.
You say the gym goers are breaking the equipment on purpose? Please install cameras inside so you can see who is leaving weights all over the place and who is breaking equipment. Once you catch them talk to them.
Read the reviews, these people...
Read moreFirst, before I launch into my rant about how absolutely horrible their customer service is, let me give this place some type of credit. I like the classes they have here, particularly the Zumba classes. For the most part, the instructors are down to earth and engaging. Working out is fun. Customer service SUCKS. If you're looking to have a fun easy, stress free dealing with administration, then this is absolutely not the place to go. I've been having about 10,000 problems with customer service now since I've been going to this gym. They already screwed up on the initial stage. My mother got a family plan, and I wasn't officially added on the list, BUT I was issued a membership card. After two weeks of attending, they informed me that my card was invaluable. Basically, I was using a card that was not scanning anything-- in other words I was not even in the system. Whoever did their job apparently thought it was cute to leave me out of the plan because, oh that's right, paying for someone that is not even in the system is totally okay. It was a hassle to get this fixed. A few months later my mother wants to remove my niece from the family plan. She calls in, and they go through the process of removing her from the day care plan. We are still being charged for something we ASSUMED was taken cared of. She was NOT removed from the list. A few days ago, I was informed that my billing information was under some totally RANDOM person's card instead of my mother's. My question is, how did I get under someone else's billing information? Secondly, why DID I get under someone else's card, and third, why is that billing information not my mother's? Whoever is doing their job is doing an absolutely crappy job. Apart from there being a few friendly faces at the front desk, this gym is run by unprofessional teenage-boy-looking employees who do not know how do to do their job properly. Run away as far as you can...
