My wife and I visited Haven this last Friday night as we had never been tho we live so close in the area. While the seating arrangement was odd as we walked up the steps, they said we’d wait in the lounge area for drinks only, as they weren’t serving food there. We were in no hurry, but weren’t that hungry either and could’ve easily noshed on something. But we let that go. As we had toured the surroundings previously, we were eager to see what the restaurant would be like, and we were not disappointed. The ambience was relaxing, the stone fireplace and greenery everywhere with high glass ceilings was really impressive. Tho we waited for quite some time for our drinks as the server was busy, when they did come she said they’d be comped which surprised and pleased us. Later we moved to the bar and were more surprised to feel a warmth of atmosphere and clientele around us. The staff, bartenders and servers ingratiated themselves with us as such that we felt very welcomed. To our amazement, we found out that the chef was from the Caribbean and that the food was inspired with the Caribbean flair. Having spent time in the Caribbean, this was particularly heartwarming. Their special hummus with farm to table, tomatoes and herbs were especially delectable. The hummus was served with a side of huge fried plantains. This was a delicious treat. Our main course was the roasted chicken Caribbean style, which was moist and tender and seasoned to perfection. What seemed like an off night had turned into a special occasion made more memorable as we were honored to meet the head Chef Kelsten, who came out to greet us personally and present us with a Caribbean pastry that was just divine. One could not ask for a better dining experience, much less locally. Special shout out to our waitress Jess, bartenders Max and Anthony and the whole crew at Haven, who made an ordinary Friday night feel quite...
Read moreAt the time of this post, Fox Point Farms is still in a soft open phase but it seems they're off to a good start. The outdoor space they've created is family friendly, dog friendly, and overall quite pleasant.
Even with a limited menu in their downstairs cafe, they had a kids section as well as a selection of simple offerings. My wife got a sandwich on sourdough, I got a sandwich on a baguette, and my son got a grilled cheese. Unfortunately the crust on all three sandwiches were almost impenetrable, which meant my 2yr old son couldn't really eat his grilled cheese. Otherwise, the taste and quality were quite good.
They only had four simple beers on tap: two lagers, a session ipa, and a hazy IPA. I tried both of the IPAs and while neither of them were amazing, they both smooth and enjoyable.
The location is the real selling point. The parking lot is a decent size but I can imagine once they're a little further along it's going to get full pretty easily on the weekends. I can definitely say I will be back, especially since it will be a nice outdoor...
Read moreI’ve been really disappointed with the direction Fox Point Farms is taking. As a new business in Encinitas, you’d expect them to prioritize building goodwill in the community—but instead, it feels like everything is about profit.
They constantly try to charge for parking, rope off beautiful areas like the upstairs landing that would be perfect for guests to enjoy or snap a photo, and charge exorbitant fees for entry. It’s not welcoming, and it certainly doesn’t feel customer-focused.
The vibe from ownership and staff comes across as stuck-up and unapproachable. It’s unfortunate because the property has potential—but until they shift their focus from control and profit to genuine hospitality, I will not be recommending this spot a lot to friends and family.
Their vibe is off. They portray a fun, open and farm like experience. However it’s overly controlled, heavily gated and monitored like leadership is a dictator or very demanding. The food is decent, drinks subpar but experience is stuffy - very...
