Howell Living History Farm is awesome, a hidden gem if you’ve got little ones or just wanna spend a mellow day outdoors. We took the fam there last weekend and came away totally impressed.
What stood out: • It’s super kid-friendly. My daughter was able to wander around, pet animals, watch demonstrations, and just explore without me being on edge the whole time. • The hands-on stuff is gold. You get a real feel for history — tools, farming, crafting. Way more engaging than a museum indoors. • The setting is peaceful and beautiful. Rolling fields, old barns, open skies — perfect for wandering, snapping photos, letting the kids run. • Staff are warm and chill. They answer questions, let the kids get involved, and don’t act like “don’t touch that” machines. • Good pace for families. You can spend a few hours or make a full afternoon of it depending on energy levels.
A few tips to get the most: • Bring snacks or a picnic — there’s space to sit and chill. • Wear comfy shoes — you’ll cover some ground. • Check the schedule (if available) for demonstrations or special events. • Sunscreen + hats if it’s sunny (not always much shade in parts).
If you’re looking for something fun and meaningful to do with young kids, this place checks so many boxes. Definitely worth a visit....

Read moreBeen going here for years. Always love it here. I always come here when i need to clear my head or if i’ve had a rough day/week that is, until today. Every time i come here to visit i always pet the horses if they’re out or feed them some grass from the ground and never has it been an issue (to my knowledge). No signs saying not to feed them. So today, i hand fed one of the horses and this young, short, roundish guy with glasses and a beard wearing one of their colonial outfits there decided to yell at me from across the yard in front of a group of people saying, “DON’T FEED THE HORSE.” I just stop and continue to pet the horse and he comes up to me tell me again! I asked why?? Since i never had been told this before and like i said, there are no signs. And he tells me “We don’t want to associate our hands with food.” I said, “Oh okay.” and left and went home after that because honestly i was just a little humiliated in the way he “reprimanded” me like i was 4yrs old. I’m 27yrs old, if there was a sign i would abide by it or approach me like an adult. Made my day even worse. ...
