⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Howell Living History Farm is awesome, a hidden gem if you’ve got little ones or just wanna spend a mellow day outdoors. We took the fam there last weekend and came away totally impressed.

What stood out: • It’s super kid-friendly. My daughter was able to wander around, pet animals, watch demonstrations, and just explore without me being on edge the whole time. • The hands-on stuff is gold. You get a real feel for history — tools, farming, crafting. Way more engaging than a museum indoors. • The setting is peaceful and beautiful. Rolling fields, old barns, open skies — perfect for wandering, snapping photos, letting the kids run. • Staff are warm and chill. They answer questions, let the kids get involved, and don’t act like “don’t touch that” machines. • Good pace for families. You can spend a few hours or make a full afternoon of it depending on energy levels.

A few tips to get the most: • Bring snacks or a picnic — there’s space to sit and chill. • Wear comfy shoes — you’ll cover some ground. • Check the schedule (if available) for demonstrations or special events. • Sunscreen + hats if it’s sunny (not always much shade in parts).

If you’re looking for something fun and meaningful to do with young kids, this place checks so many boxes. Definitely worth a visit....

Part of my Family & I joined in on the fun celibrating The Mercer County 4H Fair. Lots of wonderful animals to see Roosters, Hens Chickens,Sheep,Bunny Rabits,Goats, Horse Hay rides Train Tractor hey rides, Standard Tractor hay rides. take A picture with 3 different types of tractors fun Photo plywood cutouts. Child tractor pull toy. Plenty of seeting with Large tents to keep out of the direct sunlight. Homemade ice cream. Plenty of free parking A cool looking wagon for non parishable foods you can drop off for those in need for (Rutgers Against hunger) . They had Live Music in two separate locations. There was A tent dedicated to demonstating all types of Engines. One in particular I really liked was the water pump kept recycling the same water from A bucket then pumping the water back into the same bucket. Cool demonstration. There was also A Man Demonstrating Some black smith works of art not sure what he was making. I didn't have the opportunity to watch him finalize Something he was working on. This place is Great for A Family with Young children or maybe even just enjoying A couples day out. Great atmosphere, wonderful People the staff are very Friendly ready to lend A helping hand or glad to answer any questions they may have anser to. I would highly recommend this place...

Been going here for years. Always love it here. I always come here when i need to clear my head or if i’ve had a rough day/week that is, until today. Every time i come here to visit i always pet the horses if they’re out or feed them some grass from the ground and never has it been an issue (to my knowledge). No signs saying not to feed them. So today, i hand fed one of the horses and this young, short, roundish guy with glasses and a beard wearing one of their colonial outfits there decided to yell at me from across the yard in front of a group of people saying, “DON’T FEED THE HORSE.” I just stop and continue to pet the horse and he comes up to me tell me again! I asked why?? Since i never had been told this before and like i said, there are no signs. And he tells me “We don’t want to associate our hands with food.” I said, “Oh okay.” and left and went home after that because honestly i was just a little humiliated in the way he “reprimanded” me like i was 4yrs old. I’m 27yrs old, if there was a sign i would abide by it or approach me like an adult. Made my day even worse. ...

Exceeded my expectations in every way. Free admissions, a beautifully set farm nestled among some of the only hills in this otherwise very flat area of Central Jersey. Makes you feel as though you’re vacationing in the rolling hills of New England proper or somewhere in England, even. Calm gentle shallow creeks that are easy to wade into for little ones. Lovingly tended animals and friendly guides throughout the farm buildings. The kitchen guide and cook was a particular delight, leading its operation with noticeable competence and leading small awestruck children on grinding whole wheat, churning fresh cream for butter, and sampling traditional whole wheat quick bread. Even better, back at the visitor center, two more traditionally dressed ladies were whipping up some delightful homemade lunches. On the day I visited the menu included a quiche, tabbouleh salad, sweet potato bacon bisque, and hot dogs. Very reasonably priced and you can take it outside to a picnic table overlooking the farm. Will be working this place to our regular rotation!

I went here as chaperone with kids on a field trip organized by school. Not very clear on how much school paid for them. Kids had paid 16$ per person which included transportation from school. This is definitely good option to take group of kids and even adults. I could relate with my grandparents farms and houses in India. So farms and farm houses smell and feel the same wherever you are. Kids learned so many things. They could harvest 🌽 from the plants in garden. Overall nice experience. They need to arrange for some trash cans when kids arrive on field trips. Carrying back trash all the way from picnic area till the bus was too hard.
