The Vault in Houghton Michigan was a very wonderful boutique hotel !! I did get the accessible room because that was the only one left but the only thing I noticed aside from no tub was the microwave was underneath the sink and I had to have the front Clerk pick it up and plug it in and the room was “ready“ however there was no robe there were not enough bath towels and it seemed as though I could’ve used a dusting… BUT, aside from that it was nice having a NEW hotel, not your traditional IHG/best western/chain , this hotel had so many unique charms and always had namebrand carbonated beverages seltzers and sodas, Tropicana fruit juice, fresh brewed coffee, hot water with namebrand teabags, namebrand yogurts, variety of fresh fruit, namebrand granola bars, and namebrand chips 24 /7 so you can get a healthy snack for free, healthy drink for free …at any time during the day or night which I took advantage of throughout my stay. In the room there was a French press pour over with a bag of coffee from coffee roaster place around the corner, and in the morning there were bagels and muffins from a local bakery.Everything was fresh and from local stores! Great Job !!! My stay was outstanding. My bed was absolutely incredibly comfortable and I’ve traveled a lot and I run into this comfort level one out of every 20 beds are every this comfy…. To run into a comfort level in Michigan at a fairly new boutique hotel was awesome !! The staff was very helpful with accommodating special requests. decor was brass hardwood bed that was beautiful… I should’ve asked where that what store it was made…and namebrand bath items so wonderful. Cleanliness of bathroom was 9.5 out of 10. A clean shower curtain not a spot of mold ( I check every time I go out to a hotel) The floors not a spot of mold in the bathroom and the fridge was spotless inside and the microwave inside was spotless also. my only complaint was that the robe and the towels and the microwave was not set to go upon a check in past check in time, and I had to ask for the items , which for the microwave was at 12 midnight which was inconvenient, I believe, for the front desk however that’s when I needed my microwave so that’s why he had to come in my room at a late hour. t I would recommend it I got my check and the price for this fab boutique hotel with great charm was about a $60 difference between the chain hotel that was a Hilton Hampton Inn. For that bit of a price difference it was very much worth it . I had free parking also which I failed to mention but I didn’t have a car so I didn’t need to use my free parking ticket. I did go to the downstairs “Speakeasy” which is worth the trip down -there were no free drinks included -but I sat and talked to the bartenders and there was a handful of patrons and for $10 I got a beer and I enjoyed just checking the place out downstairs and the decor and the antiques —so it was worth a little visit and even if you just get a seltzer water it’s still worth a visit to see how they decided to add something along the lines of their theme ,which was unique and different and something you won’t find very often. I will say it is in the area of town which is safe. I felt safe walking by myself (female petite) and there are some cute little boutiques, the hardware store is definitely worth checking out as it has some cute gift ideas not just hardware. Every store I went into there were helpful, pleasant people working and interesting items. I did walk all the way to Joe’s grocery which was next to the college Greek houses. Joe’s had some staple items but since independent grocer ,expensive. I bought peanut butter, oat milk and a vegan dinner and 2 apples -40$. Streets were well lit. No persons homeless or under any influences while walking (9:30 pm). Nice college kids assisted w directions. 5 min walk l to riverfront park which was BEAUTIFUL.. awesome sunsets. Families, couples, mature young adults walking or biking . Beautiful grounds.Check out the old train station which is now restaurant:historic...
Read moreHorrible service. Beautiful place but the staff including Shel and her workers are horrible. I had originally got the hall for my wedding, it was completely paid off, but we decided to do my sons baptism instead. I was supposed to have the venue for the full day as I had originally paid for (so about 10am-midnight). Shel changed the ending time of my sons baptism to 9pm (we got there at 6pm for dinner) tried to kick me out early (about 8pm). Staff dumped out a freshly made drink that was just paid for. The staff brought out my contract BEFORE 8pm saying I needed to leave. I PAID $2500 for the full day up to midnight. But because we decided to change it from a wedding to a baptism it apparently gave her the right to cut MY PAID time short all because there was less people. Shel even had a meeting with another family while in the middle of us setting up the venue. Amon top of that to, she made changes to my contact AFTER I signed it. OH! And she also booked a concert in the venue during my sons baptism as well, that is why she is trying to have us get kicked out early. Shel and her “business” is a joke. You would be a LOT better off finding a venue that will actually treat you with respectful. You will not get it...
Read moreI had to plan my gender reveal last minute and everyone was booked besides the Vault. The owner responded to any questions I had right away, and overall took a lot of stress off my shoulders. She was more than accommodating. Upon arrival I was nervous because I was told she wouldnt be there but her staff really did the impossible. They not only set up all the tables and chairs AND included beautiful centerpieces but they also helped set up all my decorations and food just in time for the big party. Throughout the entire party, the staff was very sweet, calming all my worries. They even helped our guest package food to go so it was one less worry. At the end of the party, the whole team helped us clean up the party. We definitely will be going back. 5/5 stars, HIGHLY recommend booking a party...
