This excursion offers a unique blend of excitement, education, and natural beauty that will leave you in awe. From the moment we boarded the boat, the friendly crew made us feel right at home. They were not only knowledgeable about their craft but also eager to share their experiences and stories about life as crab fishermen. Learning about their daily routines and the challenges they face was both eye-opening and fascinating. One of the highlights of our tour was witnessing firsthand the incredible techniques used in crab fishing. We are on the Norwegian Joy cruise ship, with a first stop in Ketchikan, AK. We took the Bearing Sea Crab Fisherman’s Tour from Ward Cove. This tour is an ABSOLUTE MUST! The CREW!! Captain Dave, Big “D”, and Dave…along with the beautiful deck hands who we apologetically cannot remember the names of…were informative, entertaining, and very skilled in fishing Alaska and the Bearing Sea. Their true stories were captivating from the Discovery Channel’s “Deadliest Catch” - Season 2, to the heroic and challenging life stories that left you happy for their success and even saddened for so many friends lost along the years. You learned of sacred Tribal lands surrounding the bay and how the success of their tour business is able to support those Tribes. The tour takes you through beautiful calm waters around a reservation where Bald Eagles are abundant and flying all around you. Trust us, the incredible photo opportunities are more than you can capture! You learn of long line fishing while experiencing the actual catch and release of beautiful Alaskan halibut. Next you can hold live prawns, live snow crab, Rock King Crab, starfish….and you meet their friend the octopus who tags along for an educational lesson about the smartest creatures of the sea. There are live demonstrations and did we mention the gift shop and option to snack on fresh King Crab with melted butter?? This tour will forever stay in our hearts and if you have the opportunity to take it, please remember to donate to the memorial fund on board in support of the families whose fishermen did not come home. Thank you Captain Dave, Big D, Dave, and Team for your beautiful hospitality!! Mario and Donna - Reno, NV

Our family of 9 just returned from an amazing Alaska cruise and went on this excursion . My husband , 2 kids and I had been on this exact same excursion in 2010 and loved it . I knew when we were planning this trip they I wanted our 3 grandkids going to enjoy this , I knew they would love it and they really did . We were known that day as the family from Alabama . The boat is so nice , well kept and maintained . The facilities and gift shop were nice and the crew was amazing ! The 3 main men including the captain of the boat were so friendly , all spoke from the heart about their lives , the life of being a fisherman and the ups and downs they have been through ! It is 100% positive that although being a deep sea fisherman is hard they love it and it is in their blood . My grandsons 5 and 10 loved getting to see up close and hold several “sea creatures “ like a box crab , snow crab, sea urchin, star fish , prawn and saw an octopus and a huge halibut . We are Auburn football college fans and the part where they fed the eagles and watched them catch the fish in their claws was a highlight ( our mascot is an eagle 🦅 ). . This excursion is a must and if we ever go back to Alaska , we will be sure and go again !

The Bering Sea Crab Fishermen's Tour aboard the Aleutian Ballad was an absolutely incredible experience! We were able to hold crabs, sea urchin, shrimp, and starfish, which was unforgettable. While this was pretty amazing, the tour's highlight was feeding the bald eagles. Watching these majestic birds swoop down to catch their meal was surreal and awe-inspiring! It was a rare and beautiful experience that left a lasting impression, for which I have few fitting words to describe it properly. There is a galley which offers hot cocoa, coffee, and a selection of snacks, including delicious crab. The hospitality of the crew was exceptional. They were not only knowledgeable but also genuinely passionate about the sea life and the rich history of the area. Their dedication to making the tour enjoyable and informative was evident throughout. They even provide heavy duty rain gear to keep you warm, which I was thankful to take full advantage of. This tour is a must-do for anyone visiting Ketchikan. It combines adventure, education, and a touch of magic. I would eagerly do it again and highly recommend it to anyone seeking a memorable and unique experience. Simply put, it was extraordinary!

Experiencing the life of crab fishermen in Ketchikan is truly an unforgettable adventure, offering a unique glimpse into the arduous yet rewarding profession that is often romanticized on television. Watching these dedicated "crab-men" at work, witnessing their deep love and respect for the sea as they haul in their catches, adds an unparalleled depth to the adventure. The captain and crew play a pivotal role in enriching this experience. Their expertise not only ensures safety and efficiency but also brings a human touch to the journey with their gentle and amiable demeanor. Their hospitality and knowledge about the intricacies of crab fishing are commendable, making every moment aboard both educational and enjoyable. Highly recommended for anyone visiting Ketchikan, this tour not only offers insight into the challenging world of crab fishing but also allows you to connect with the local culture and maritime heritage. Whether you're a seafood enthusiast, a lover of nature, or simply curious about this unique industry, the experience is sure to leave you with lasting memories and a deep appreciation for the hard work that goes into bringing seafood from the ocean to the table.

We drove from Indiana to Seattle then boarded a 7 day alaskan cruise and out of EVERYTHING we saw and did, this was still the BEST part of our vacation! It is 100% worth booking! It was chilly and rainy, but nothing like what the men and women in the fishing industry endure to earn their wages and the blood, sweat, and tears that paid for the Aleutian Ballad that they give us the amazing opportunity to be on. The crew provided everyone with rain coats and insulated jackets. The hot cocoa they had for sale in the galley was delicious. The crew also said multiple times if anyone was miserable to let them know and they will help to fix the situation. They also said that if you don't have a great view to move around when it is safe to do so. We sat upstairs and that was the best view for the entire tour! It's incredible to hear the crew's stories and their passion for the sea life. The captain expertly docked the boat in between two cruise ships, like parallel parking a vehicle. Thank you for the amazing memories and photos we were able to capture during the tour! Now, if only I could try my hand as a green horn on the bearing sea ;)
