The Charco El hippie is a piece of heaven on earth. Notice: These are private lands. They are no part of the National Forest and are NOT PUBLIC. The owner of the property that has the easy access to the river has been kind enough to let visitors use her entrance. BE KIND TO HER! She is taking measures due to the amount of garbage people left in the area, people using the land as bathroom, damaging the private lands, making noise in the area due to music equipments and visitors blocking neighbors entrances.
She charges $2 per person to use her access and has a $10 parking steps from the river (at the end of the road). There are also other neighbors in the area that charge $5 for the parking. You just will walk a little bit more.
If you pay the $10 to her, the persons in the vehicle are not charge more. If you park somewhere else, you pay the $2 fee per person and can get to the river through her land, which is the only easy access it has. Tourism buses pay more to park.
The road you drive through is a private road for the lands, not a public road. The neighborhood has an ongoing Community Tourism Project to improve the road, clean the green areas and create bathrooms and other amenities that will make the visitors more comfortable and the place a more enjoyable one to visit. The donations are needed for visitors to be able to continue using the easy access to the swimming hole.
Since 02/2022, there are also neighbors selling food, which is nice since there was no food anywhere around before. Yummy!
While I was visiting, I found out that everything has changed, but everything will be for the best. I saw people insulting the owner, which is very sad, rude and aggressive as she is allowing people to cross through her land to get to the beautiful scenic river area, but keep in mind that she has the right to not allow you to get in her land and can close the access anytime she wants because it's her land. Be kind, be respectful, be hippie, peace and love.

Read moreBeautiful! We didn’t go with a tour and managed well - got a little lost and missed a turn, but we survived. Somehow while all the reviews say trust GPS, we managed to miss the mark the first time. When I reentered it on my phone, we thankfully found a driveway to turn around in and backtracked. Updates from the reviews I read: the road is narrow, but paved all the way to the parking area now, there is clear signage and parking sign confirmed only $5 for parking. We didn’t run into anyone else asking for money. The homeowner wasn’t home so we left the $5 with a note on our windshield and that worked. He waved goodby from his porch as we came back to our car to leave. After parking, there’s a short uphill paved hike to the main waterfall/pool area. We tried to climb the very steep, rough trail to the upper portion, but a guide bringing his group down stopped us and said it was gated entry only. We didn’t bother going up higher to confirm and headed to the main pool instead. Very rocky and steep, but fine for average, healthy folks. I probably wouldn’t bring kids under 8-10 unless they listen better than mine did at that age. There are massive boulders with steep drops, but clear entry points that are safe but slippery. Many climbed up the rocks along the waterfall (after crossing through the pool where the waterfall is; the best paths are on the far side of the pool), we decided going down was safer and were greeted with some additional pools &...
Read more@KONSTRUKTSTUDIO This is a beautiful place with fun landscape to explore from its wonderful natural pool and water slides , large boulders, waterfalls, swing you can sit on and cliff jumping. There’s a small jump about 10’ that you can jump into the natural pool at the main swimming area. For the more adventurous you can hike up the side to the upper waterfall for a larger jump that’s about 25’. I would only recommend this if you see a local who can point out where to jump from and you personally go in the water first to check out your landing point as it is somewhat narrow. My 17 yr old son is a novice cliff jumper and loved this one! Even if you don’t want to jump it is worth working your way up the boulders to see the larger waterfall! It is easier to do this on the right side when looking at the lower portion. The swing is also on this side. I also recommend parking at the house near the entrance and paying the small fee which helps support the locals. They’re very friendly! They sell yummy homemade empanadas, drinks, and have a nice new outhouse for $1. Great place for a short visit along your journey or an...
