I bought a brand new PS5 in March 2025. When I bought the console, the employee in the store really pushed the store warranty on me, basically telling me that the controller and or console would fail within one year and that I could replace them at no cost. I took the salesperson for their word, and I purchased the GameStop warranty for I believe around $80.
Fast forward to September, and the controller is failing. This came as no surprise all gamers know that these devices typically fail after a short period of time.
This all being said, my console is in good working order and I have been very careful to only lay it horizontally, and not let it overheat.
I was told by the GameStop employee today that in order to trade in my controller, for a refurbished one, I would also need to trade in the entire console, for another refurbished console. When I asked what happens when the refurbished console or controller fails, they claim that their warranty is for a one-time transaction only.
So basically I have to trade in my relatively brand new console for one that has been refurbished broken replaced, who knows what?
I feel like I was pretty much totally scammed by this salesperson, and the chains policy in general.
I have been a casual gamer and been shopping at game stop ever since it opened, it's too bad to see the chain has fallen this far.
I hope the 80 bucks was worth losing my business and me telling everyone I know what a terrible experience I had...
Read moreDon't know why they are still in business but whatever. Let me start by saying their are signs pointing to where the lime forms two of them to be truthful. Mr and my son were waiting in line at the designated place and another guy with his son comes and skips the clerk takes him she was the only one there that day at the register at that time. I didn't want to make a scene in front of my 12 year old because he wasn't paying attention for a split second I spoke to him later about this. I could've gotten mad at the guy but I knew that the clerk was supposed to enforce the rule and she didn't she just allowed it. So I waited until they finished and wen to the clerk she took care of my son and then I asked my son to Wai for me outside that I needed to speak to the lady for a minute. He left and waited outside. I asked the lady I said can I speak to you for a minute and she said sure what's up?. I stayed the obvious about the sings and pointed out her error, she then said your right and I'm sorry. After that I said ok just remember for next time because there's no Pont in waiting online and signs if that's going to take place she said she understood and I left. I just feel like many of these places treat you like your insignificant, just another number or perhaps look at you and say they ain't got no money anyways. Never judge a book by its cover, I'm not saying that's why what happened happened but hey I've seen it all before. Anyways that's my review I hope...
Read moreWent in to buy a PS Vita 1000 with 2 giftcards and a certificate. Called in advance to ensure that the certificate would work which I was assured would. I go into the store, and was "assisted" by Vanessa. She tried to sell me the pro membership and insurance per usual which I declined. She responded in a condescending tone with "Oh you don't like to save money? Well you're missing out, you come in here looking for a specific model and don't even want the insurance." Among other things. Horribly rude woman. We began ringing out the purchase, I swiped both giftcards and then we realized the certificate wasn't applied. So she told me that we CANNOT CANCEL THE PURCHASE and to let it go through and we just refund it. I followed those orders and did exactly that. However after the refund she prompted me not to use my giftcards again and to only use my payment method. I went another GameStop later in the day to pick up a Memory Card for the Vita as there was no 16gb at Stratford and tried to use the giftcards (which at this point should've been refunded as Vanessa did the refund) and they showed an insufficient funds on both. I'm out the full amount of the giftcards in the current state and have no clue if I can get them back as I'm quite certain I should've gotten 2 new giftcards as a refund like most other stores do. Avoid this store, literally the interaction with Vanessa alone should be something you...
