Should have been 5 stars.
The gift shop and theatre facility is very nice and very well done. HOWEVER, we were offered a discount to see Yellowstone at the IMAX. Which we thought would be a great experience for our kids. The movie is PG. And our kids were subjected to previews for Dune: Part II, the latest Hunger Games, and A Haunting in Venice. Exposing my kids to war, children fighting to the death for entertainment, witchcraft, seance and murder. Then to top if off -- a woman screaming in horror at the top of her lungs. Our kids sat there scared and covering their eyes and ears the best they could.
We were unaware there would be previews at all - let alone THESE vile previews!
My wife got up and complained. The employee said he couldn't stop or skip it. Saying, "Well, it's PG13." To which She asked him what the movie was rated. He said PG. It's Not OK to have adult previews at a PG movie that you know kids will be at! The employee said he'd "tell the owners". I'm writing this review to warn other families to ask ahead about the previews -- as we don't know if anything will change.
And frankly - it's probably not worth your time to see Yellowstone here. The Yellowstone film does not at all hold up to the experience I've had at other historical areas of significance, such as the IMAX at the Alamo. It's an older film with lackluster acting and a fake bear. I would have loved for it to be more about Yellowstone Park and the various...
Read moreAll the employees were above and beyond kind, helpful and professional. I was super disappointed to have taken my children into what I thought was a family friendly IMAX experience about Yellowstone. The preview for the James Bond film was abundantly inappropriate for a younger audience. In surround sound and on an enormous screen my 7 and 8 year olds were subject to rather extreme violence as my husband and I panicked to cover their eyes and talk over the horrific sounds as best we could as we were not near an exit. I fully understand it is my responsibility to ask before I take my child into the theater, but I also find it shocking anyone would think this an appropriate pairing for a film about Yellowstone National Park. The film itself was ok, but also disappointing. There are so many wonders and so much history Yellowstone provides to be showcased on this amazing screen, and this one fell flat. As a side note, it also cursed, which again seemed strange for the purpose of the film. This is a wonderful location, theater, and store full of amazing employees. I hope those in charge may reconsider the preview and main film and use their unique resources in a better way in the future to showcase Yellowstone in an...
Read moreOne of only a few REAL Imax theaters. Can't beat watching a movie at one of these theaters. Some places say they have Imax, but its not a true Imax screen like this. We were visiting from California and Sacramento has the same size screen at 60X80 feet. Theater has 300 seats. Biggest screen you will find in a 12 state radius. They have one showing of the newest movies at 7 PM. I believe the other movie times are for the more traditional imax screenings. We saw the newest Mission impossible and had a great expierence. Staff was really friendly and the snack bar seemed reasonably priced. Then again Im comparing it to California prices so everything seemed cheap! If you have time to fit in a movie and have never been to a true Imax,...
