I have never written a review but I am compelled to do so for Basecamp in Golden because of our horrible experience. I booked six nights (because on the website it looks cute and clean) for this small hotel starting from 8/3/2025. The first night there was the worst that I have ever experienced. The room (#104) was extremely small and basic with zero storage space, this we were willing to tolerate. However, there was a portable A/C unit right next to the bed (a few inches away literally) which gave out enormous noise when it came on. Although the A/C is a portable one, it was fixed in place and could not be moved (how ironic?). It was a very hot day/night and the window was not one that can be opened. Through out the night, we were startled by the A/C every few minutes and basically did not have any rest at all. We were completely exhausted by 4AM and still couldn’t sleep at all. We then requested a different room but were told there was no other room available so we decided to leave and find other place to stay. We made complaints to the front desk and the hotel manager about the situation and asked for refund for the 5 remaining nights that we were not going to use. Although they were nice and apologetic about the situation, I only received refund for the base rate and not the taxes and fees of those 5 nights. The bottom line is that the cost for the one extremely miserable night we spent in Basecamp Golden cost us 980 Canadian dollar. I don’t understand why they would not cancel the original booking and just charge us for the one night stay in this kind of situation. I’m sure if this happens in the States, I would have been given full refund. ————————————————————-
The following part is added after the owner’s reply- First of all, you cannot hide behind “our policy is not refundable…” when you provide inferior product/service to paying customers. That’s simply bad faith policy. Secondly, the taxes that have been paid to you were not yours to keep, you are committing fraud by not refunding this to the customers. BTW, I also paid taxes for the stay at another hotel so effectively I paid twice.
Finally, this part is for people who will be reading this review, please pay attention to many of the positive reviews. Most of them are fake reviews by so-called “local guides”, they write multiple reviews for random hotels or businesses and in return for payment/perks, and that’s how these terrible hotels can still maintain reasonable overall ratings. Read moreI rarely post a negative review, but as a public service announcement, I wanted to let others know that we did not have a good experience at the Basecamp Lodge Golden. I would not recommend staying there. Some reasons why:||||Room noise: Our room was very small, which might have been ok by itself, but we were very displeased with the extremely poor interest insulation and construction, resulting in noise of other guests from adjacent rooms. Not that they did anything wrong, it’s just that it seemed like they were almost in the same room with you when they got up in the middle of the of the night and woke us up. This place had the noise and feel of a budget European hostel. ||||Poor location in the middle of an industrial area looking out at a trailer park. The pictures on the website make it look like a luxury lodge, it is not.||||There’s no hot tub. They don’t represent that there is one, but for a ski related hotel, no reason why they couldn’t have put one on the back deck like almost every other ski hotel at this price point at their price point. ||||They wouldn’t allow guest to drink a beer (or any alcohol) after skiing in the common area by the fire. They were out of coffee cups in the morning.||||*Service was extremely poor and they were very inflexible when we wanted to leave early and stay at another place and offered no refund or credit whatsoever. I’d like to point out that we were very kind in our request and asked if they could transfer a credit for one night to another Basecamp in Revelstoke, which seemed quite reasonable given the circumstances. They declined …claiming that other Basecamp hotels have a slightly different investor base and they don’t operate as a...
