We rented a room at this hostel several days before our departure from the Czech Republic in the summer 2022 because of its proximity to the Prague airport and walking distance to the grocery store Sestka. However, we were not aware that the Hostel Modra, and especially its adjacent property building, Ubytovna Seda, rents to the lowest strata of the Czech society. Consequently, we found ourselves surrounded by residents who spent their time passively sitting around, publicly drinking alcohol, incessantly smoking, and leaving cigarettes butts, ash, and trash everywhere, and occasionally engaging in verbal and physical fights, with the police being called to restore order. Therefore, this place may not be suitable for families with children.
Potential customers should also know that the hostel staff requires a 25.00 USD key deposit but does not inform guests that in an order to receive the deposit back upon leaving, the guest must not only return the room keys but also the deposit receipt slip, without which this establishment refuses to refund the deposit.
Also, foreign tourists should pay attention to the fact that the Czech Republic government frequently issues new bank notes and voids some or all of its paper bank notes, even though the new bank notes look nearly identical to the previous ones. While this matter does not escape the attention of the Czech inhabitants, it does escape the attention of foreigns who are used to the permanency of the Euro or Dollar, and who don't understand the Czech language and can't follow the Czech news.
Thus, when the Hostel Modra staff issued our deposit refund in the outdated Czech currency, which is no longer accepted as a valid currency in the Czech Republic, we did not notice until attempting to use these bank notes in a retail store several hours later after checking out of the hostel. The retail clerk refused to accept the bank notes but advised us to exchange them in the Czech Central Bank and inform the Bank of the origin of these no longer valid bank notes. We were faced with either having to travel to the center of Prague and waste our afternoon waiting in traffic and dealing with fraudulent bank notes in the bank or forgetting about our 25 USD deposit refund from the...
Read morethe name of the hostel in Czech is "Hostel Modrá" which literally means Blue Hostel. So when you get there, look for the name "Hostel Modrá" instead. The hostel is close to the airport, you can take the bus 100,191,119 to the airport from the hostel (the bus stop just located outside the hostel and takes 10mins to the airport). Schedule(frequency), bus stops and directions are clearly shown on the bus stop so it's easy for anyone to read and reach the city centre or the airport. For night travellers, bus 510 is available throughout the whole night. The hostel itself located very near the bus stop so arriving there in the midnight would not be too dangerous to walk in the dark (just 1-min walk to hostel). The staff in the reception is nice and friendly. The room is quite big compared to the usual budget hostel room size. The room looks like a bedroom of an average house but it is already very enough for us to stay for a night there since it's clean and quiet. No leaks, no insects and comfortable beds in the room. The reception is 24-hour so we can check in late and check out early without any hassles. There are no restaurants and bars near the hostel so if you need any hot food, the closest will be in...
Read moreThis appears to be a soviet era accommodation block left over from the communist times and is located at the old terminal building (now called Term.3) It is lifeless and soulless - but CLEAN and CHEAP!!! I have stayed here a couple of times and every time I have gotten a room to myself! Frequent buses to the airport that also run through the night. Example of the service - There is a bar but when I arrived it was closed. So - unless you don't know the way to get a beer - is to ask the "Babushka" on reception - she will then shuffle out unlock a Free standing Fridge in the lobby and then hand you a beer and then padlock the fridge again - Not exactly western style marketing!!! Also someone told me the price includes breakfast but I...
