We recently stayed at the Victor Hugo for 2 nights on a much-needed sanity break. This hotel was a real surprise. Yes, it is a budget hotel, but it did have a number of good points. First, the staff are very friendly and helpful, even offering to help us use the parking meters which were all in French and beyond our linguistic capabilities! Second, the location is really good. Just a few minutes walk from the beautiful cathedral and square, as well as being only a very short walk from bars and restaurants, both indoors and outdoors. We had a family room, which was quite big, bright, and quirky. The Anne Geedes baby photos on the wall added an interesting touch to the colourful walls. Our children thought they were a bit out there, but added to the bohemian experience. Things that the room does not include are tea/coffe making facilities or bar fridge. It did, however, have a small table and chairs where you could at least sit to have a drink. The only downfall to this hotel for us was the size of the shower. Very, very small. The children (aged 13 and 15) could just about manage, but my husband and myself, who are normal adult size, were in danger of getting stuck and never coming out. You don't want to drop the soap, because you would never be able to bend down to get it back!!! The hotel does offer breakfast in their very quaint dining room, but we didn't take this option as we preferred to get out and about. The room was very comfortable although, being an older building, the floors did creak, from upstairs as well as our own room, so was a little noisy, but not too much. The young owners have only been running this hotel for about a year and I would really love to see them make a go of it. If you're in to quirky and quaint I definitely recommend Victor Hugo. We will definitely stay there again next time we...
Read moreAfter a 20 year break, we wanted to re-visit the Cathedral and the area, so this seemed to be the closest within a reasonable budget.|Yes,as lots of other people have said, the hotel is old, but comfortable enough for a few nights. |We had the only ground floor room, noisy as next to traffic lights so fumes and running engines an issue, good secondary double glazing, but at the expense of some fresh air.|2 nights in early September €105 for 2 people. Breakfast was extra. The breakfast complet was “ish “ @€8.00, not to our expectations, but reasonable/hot/ tasty enough. Will be trying the basic breakfast @€4.00 the next morning.|No tea/coffee making facilities in the room, but on request we were supplied with a pot of hot water and cups, so easy and without any fuss.|The shower was okay, but the clip on the wall was broken, no big deal.||Parking could be expensive, the maximum was for 5 hours at €17.00 on a parking meter, but we were guided to a place 2 minutes away that was based in the area of a local college, so it was a wait until someone moved. Not secure so would not suggest you park anything expensive/cherished.|Not sure we would re-book, but it’s very central, so balance that against...
Read moreThe Hotel Victor Hugo is great value for money. It’s my second time staying here and would go again. It’s got a charm you can’t find in a chain hotel, with an attractive exterior and simple elegant rooms.||It’s easy to get parked nearby, and not too expensive to do so. ||If you stay here you are close to the cathedral, the Somme river, many lovely restaurants and the high street shops.||The rooms are nice, large enough, and have good showers. Whilst there is no air conditioning, you don’t need it with the wide opening windows. The beds are comfortable although I might have preferred a larger pillow.||The €8 breakfast is fine even for large appetites.||The staff are very friendly and helpful, providing you with a lovely welcome each time.||Make sure you see the sound and light show projected on to the front of the...
