Found Château des Lutz by chance on Airbnb whilst looking for a quaint place to stay for one night with my young family. Place looks idyllic so we promptly messaged the owner, requested to book, for which we were charged in full, so decided to head to the place
We arrived at 10pm. Always keeping Louis, the owner, updated via the platform
The 2KM path leading to the property is dusty gravel so bear that in mind if you decide to visit
Thankfully, the owner’s family were at the chateau right next to the gite and it was them that saw us drive up and apologetically greeted us on arrival. They quickly went to fetch Louis only for him to say “J’oublie” 👀 and “you’ve arrived too late”
I think Louis is in no condition to run a hospitality service. He’s an elderly gentleman and I’m sure he has some wonderful stories about the place and is passionate about the chateau but his condition meant we were turned away at 10pm at night with 3 children in tow
Louis’ son-in-law and his wife were very apologetic and offered us snacks for the children and asked whether we had signal so we could book alternative accommodation but the whole thing was a very uncomfortable experience
I’d strongly advice to steer clear and believe the Airbnb listing (and others judging by the reviews here)...
Read moreBe aware 1/2 mile scalpings/gravel drive, car will be completely covered in dust in dry weather! After reading earlier reviews we booked the chateau believing it offered a evening meal as we did not want to drive miles to find a resturant. Sadly on arrival at the chateau it was clear no meals were available! Rooms not serviced for the duration of your stay, only soap provided in bathroom, nothing else. We were not invited to use the pool or other amenities, the host had a general dislike of non French speaking guests and some of us in our party of 6 felt he was very rude! Very basic breakfast provided not even a croissant! Bred, jam, baby bell cheese and a yoghurt. (Youghurt not put in fridge overnight) . Lovely grand old house and Grounds but it's seen better days :( Very dark inside in evenings, no tea or coffee facilities in rooms, you need to provide...
Read moreHaving booked in January for two nights via a website (not tripadvisor) we were looking foreword to some tranquility following the bustle of Normandy’s 75 commemoration of D-day. Having finally found the chateau (thanks to Waze!) the only living thing to greet us was a cat. We googled the phone number and spoke to the host- who said the booking “had been cancelled “ and he was in Lyon, whereupon we left in search of a bed courtesy of Ibis Styles in Segre.||Upon reading a review on Expedia it would appear that our experience is not unique , so perhaps it’s as well not to pay...
