We stayed for 2 nights in 2 rooms (tree house bungalow and studio apartment). The tree house was the main reason that I booked this property, but it sleeps only 2 in a queen size, mosquito netted bed. The mattress was good. The walls are not sealed, but are comprised of many louvers. No screens, so the air and mosquitoes, and lizards have easy access to the room (thus the need for mosquito netting). Surprisingly, bugs were not a problem, and we didn’t get a single mosquito bite for the two nights.||||The first night we had difficulty sleeping as the tree is a tropical fruit tree, which dropped one fruit every hour or so on the metal roof... very loud and gets your adrenaline pumping. The second night there were no fruit dropping... slept fine.||||There is a wood/rope bridge that takes you from the ground to the treehouse and the owner does not allow kids to cross the bridge. At the top of the rope bridge is an opening that I can easily fall through (that’s why he doesn’t let kids on it). The fall would be about 30 feet down to your death. ||||The owner (Claude) is a very nice man, but needs to close the opening at the top of the bridge.||||The studio apartment was air conditioned with a decent queen sized bed, and a small enclosed patio on the beach. All units have a kitchen with stove, utensils, and small refrigerator. Nothing fancy, but a step above camping.|||| The owner provides a single kayak and a two person kayak, complete with paddles and life jackets. A few floaty noodles and snorkeling equipment are also free for the guests. They have been heavily used, but worked fine for us.||||You are on the beach and The walk to the water is less than a minute from the apartments/bungalows. Finely grained black sand beach is nice, but makes you feel like you are always dirty. Lots of crabs residing in holes in the sand and mud. Many softball sized round rocks on the shore interspersed in the sand.||||There are no restaurants at this beach ( called Anse Noire), but if you walk up over a hill to the next cove there are 3 restaurants open for lunch (not breakfast or dinner). This beach is called Anse Dufour and is nice yellow sand. They have public...
Read moreThis place is for people like us. ||Nothing can beat the view and the experience of almost living on the beach.||If you are a nature and water lover, and you like your peace and quiet, this is the place to go.||If you want amusement, you're in the wrong place.||||Could there be more luxury? Yes, but did we miss it? No.||The outdoor area where the kitchen is, overlooks the ocean and the pier where fishermen come in the morning, to be replaced by tourists and day visitors.||||But the main attraction are the animals.||Pelicans swooping in to dive straight in with a splash to pick up some fish.||The fish that are swimming like a moving mountain by the thousands and swirl and twinkle their silver hides and try to avoid being caught and eaten.||||If you're lucky the turtles will swim underneath you (do NOT touch, chase or scare them, even though they can come close), you will see lobsters and people diving to catch them.||||We thought it was paradise. Others might think it's basic.||But if you're like us, this is definitely the place to visit.||||The owner, Claude, is charming and the pick up and drop off went smoothly.||Yes a pick up and drop off since you can't drive to the beach. ||If you come by car, you park your car on the (sometimes very crowded parking place on) top and contact Claude so he can pick you up. To get to your car, there are perfectly fine stairs that take you up in a minute or two. (four if you are out of shape ;-)||||Quick overview:||Beds are very comfy||Bathroom is small but has a nice 'outdoor feel' to it with the bamboo shower stall and coconut shower head||There is a separate small toilet||AC units have a glass floor with sand underneath. We thought it very cool||The outdoor area has a kitchen with a stove, microwave and refrigerator and the best view over Anse Noir and the setting sun||||There is nothing to do at night but gaze at the stars or read a book.||We love, love, loved it but it might not be for everyone. (but it...
Read moreThis is our third stay at Domaine de Robinson, and we are looking forward to coming back. This is a wonderful place to stay, with comfortable accommodations and a very welcoming host who speaks both French and English. You have your choice of staying in a small bungalow, big bungalow, studio, or tree house. Each unit has a comfortable queen-sized bed, while the big bungalow has separate rooms for a family stay. Each unit also has a kitchen where you can prepare your own meals. There is a also a communal barbecue area where you can grill a meal. The bungalows and tree house come furnished with hammocks on their covered decks.||||The property is located right on the beach, just steps from the water. The Anse Noire beach has some of the best snorkeling on the island. You can see many kinds of reef fish, turtles, octopuses, corals, and sponges. Anse Noire beach is very quiet and not commercial. You can buy some local artwork and handicrafts on the beach or homemade ice cream, but no T-shirts or bumper stickers. Just a few minutes' walk over the hill is Anse Dufour, a second beach with great snorkeling, and a few restaurants where you can buy lunch. If you need groceries, you can also meet up with one of the daily vegetable trucks in Anse Dufour to buy fruits or vegetables.||||This is a great spot for bird watching, snorkeling, kayaking (Domaine de Robinson has several kayaks that you can use for free), and hiking, or just plain relaxing on the beach or patio. We also learned to play petanque here, the French game that looks like bocce but is more fun. Since Anse Noire is relatively remote and has no stores or restaurants, it's a good idea to bring food with you...
