After a day of exploring Tikal, the number one thing we wanted was a nice hot shower. Unfortunately this was not possible. There was talk of a plumbing issue, so I put my dirty clothes back on and waited for it to be fixed, and were later told it was fixed but the shower was only ever able to get to lukewarm for the duration of our stay. For some people this won’t be a dealbreaker but for me, I really need a hot shower after a big day.||The hotel did my laundry for free to compensate for the shower problem but when I got the clothes back, there were items in the bag that belonged to another guest. I returned the items of course but this made me concerned that some of my items had gotten lost also as I hadn’t made a list of what I gave them, Id just trusted in their system. ||The mosquitos are also an issue. Expect a lot of them. There is no system for keeping them out of guest rooms - no mosquito nets, no mosquito coils (we purchased our own from a shop down the road and burned them all through the night which meant breathing in a lot of smoke but at least it minimised the bites). ||The breakfast was fine, didn’t try anything else from the restaurant.||In terms of location - it seems to be a good, central spot in El Remate but if we went back we would just stay in Flores. Flores is much more scenic and has many restaurants, shops, things going on etc. Yes El Remate is closer to Tikal and Belize but either way you’ll need to organise transport to get to those locations and what’s an extra 30 mins in a vehicle? ||All in all I think the hotel will be good for some guests (especially if you like horses and don’t mind mozzies/lukewarm showers) but it wasn’t what we were...
Read moreThis review is coming from someone who has travelled to 60 countries on 6 continents. Palomino Ranch and beauty that sorrounds it are one of the most magical places in the world. Words will never be able to express how I felt here. The most kindest people, the most beautiful horses and the energy here is healing. I hope to come back here every year. I was crying when I left this place... This is a true treasure of Guatemala. I have left, but my soul remains there. I am actually thinking of changing my travel plans so I can come and stay here again. In Palomino Ranch I felt home, I felt at peace. This is not a hotel... this is a treasure. I am so grateful to have found it and so lucky to have been able to stay here. The food is delicious, the horse rides into the mountains to see Mayan sacred sites was an otherworldly experience, the rooms are spectacular, the grounds make you feel that you are living in your own movie. Stay here and experience, something that is authentic, unique and unforgettable. Thank you from the bottom of my heart to Don Arturo and all the amazing staff,...
Read moreWe chose to stop in El Remate because it was less expensive than Flores and it is also an excellent strategic location - 30 min to Flores, 30 min to Tikal and on the road to Belize, where we were going next. When we booked the hotel, we thought it was just a name, but it was an actual ranch! Beautiful horses, absolutely incredible grounds, flowers everywhere, nice pool, great food (we tried the fresh White Fish, that lives only in the Peten Itza lake). The rooms were very spacious and the bathroom was probably the biggest I've ever seen in a hotel. The stuff is super friendly, especially Juanjo, who spoke perfect English - we had great conversations about Maya. One of the nights we wanted to have some wine and they didn't have it there, but Juanjo went to town and bought it for us! We felt like family. They offer horse riding tours and jungle tours and it was so beautiful to walk to the end of the long dock right in front of the hotel and watch sunset. Truly magical place, I would stay there again in...
