Three years ago today, my beloved father passed away at the Media Luna Resort in Roatan. His was 51, in excellent shape, without any health problem and he was a good swimmer and diver. The lady from Air Transat suggested to their group that they should go and scuba dive at the end of the ''media luna'' at the end of the beach of the resort. It was the day before the full moon and there was no red flag on the beach, everyone was just having a good time when the waves started to be really strong. My father was pushed onto the rocks many times. For about 10 minutes, he was fighting for his life, waving at my mom and at other tourists on the beach, but there was no lifeguard on duty, no life buoy, no lifeguard surfboard, no ropes they could have thrown at him. My dad finally managed to get out the water because workers that were fixing the roof of a hut came down on the rocks and pulled him out of the water. They carried him on a long chair all the way from the end of the mezza luna beach to the lobby. My father's face was burgundy. He had some salty water on his lungs. There were no first aid respondent on the site. Someone from the hotel arrived with the first aid kit. They only had plasters. They called an ambulance. A diving instructor tried to massage my father's chest to help him breathe because his face was turning purple. They massaged his stomach instead, and he threw up instead of breathing better. The ambulance was not arriving, so they took my dad by car to go meet the ambulance. They took him before my mom came back from her room, so he left alone to die with strangers. On his way to meet the ambulance, he stopped breathing and passed away. 40 minutes later, my mom arrived to the hospital. No one could speak English of French, but just by seeing the look that the doctor had on his face, she knew something was wrong. The hospital was really basic, there were not any floors. My mom had to fill lots of paperwork in a language she did not understand. She had to borrow someone's cellphone to call us back in Canada to tell us about the terrible news. She was stuck on the island for 2 other days because no plane was leaving. It was a total nightmare. Please consider going elsewhere on your vacation. This resort has NO LIFEGUARD OR SECURITY, NO RED FLAG when they should have known that it was the full moon eve, NO MEDICAL EQUIPMENT to help my dad breathe. His life could have been spared if there would have been a warning sign, a lifeguard and breathing tubes that can be found in every hotel first aid kit in Canada. He could have also been saved if the hospital would have been closer. I can only think of someone who would have a heart attack while at the Media Luna resort: he/she would have really thin chances of survival. Since the resort is in a foreign country, we did not have any judicial remedy against them. We did not get the chance to speak to them and to ask them to take action to make their resort safer for their guests. My father was taken from us because of the lack of security of this resort. Please do not go there.

This is my first experience at the Media Luna. I Stayed 2 weeks in DEC 2024 for diving activities. First impression: The Resort re-opened recently and it is very cleaned, quiet and situated in the middle of the vegetations, with exotic flowers and situated on the shore. The beach is small but easily accessible via the upper deck with a superb view on the sunset! The service is exceptional and very friendly for the hotel star rating! Food: There is only one restaurant that serve all the meals and snacks. The food is Excellent. The Chef Samuel and the sous Chef Andrea prepared fresh and tasty meals with a lot of seafood options, Italian meals, local and special treat such as Poutine, langust, roasted pig… There are 3-4 choices of proteins at lunch and supper. Fresh fish, chicken, porc, beef and seafood. The recipe change every day so you may eat chicken 2-3 days consecutively but the recipe makes you discover new flavor each time. Be curious and try one of their many soup recipe… It is literally an explosion of happiness each time! Andrea cook cake and prepared pastry every day and the amount of sugar added is perfect. Lodging; The individual room is very cozy, nice with large windows, new air conditioning and balcony with an hammac. The mattress is firm and confortable. The room service is good and efficient. There is a large flat LED screen with free Wifi connection for streaming. Animation; Young team that adapt their activities for their clientele. They are not insisting or pushing people. Their music is not excessively loud and allow quiet moment during morning, day and during supper. Dance and group animation each night lasting 1-2 hours. Kayak and water game available. Diving: They just opened their dive center. The site is beautiful and they just finished building a long and great docking area for dive boats. They’re will refill the bottle and nitrox on site. Area for improvement: - people should not be allowed to eat is swimming suit and bare chest or at least for supper since their is only one restaurant. - coffee machine in the room shall be an option; - wine menu ($) should be offer in the restaurant; Notes: During rain saison: mid-October to mid-Feb there is a lot of tiny “sand fly” that bite like crazy if no insect repellent applied… DON’t FORGET YOUR AFTER BITE and anti-itch lotion, you will need it if you don’t want to turn crazy!

We just returned from a week at Media Luna and overall really enjoyed our stay. The resort is very clean, and the staff were extremely nice and accommodating. Loved that the rooms were individual, private bungalows with hammocks on the decks. There is only one restaurant open at selected meal times, which we knew going in. While the food was good, options were quite limited, and became repetitive and a little boring after a few days. The location offers some great views and good swimming on a small beach, but it’s very remote- not a bad thing unless you’re hoping to wander off the property. We were travelling with an 8 month old, so can’t comment on any of the night time entertainment, but I know there was something happening most nights. While I realize it’s not a 5-star resort, there were a few small things that could be considered for an overall better experience. Accessibility: there was a ramp to get to/from the lobby area to the restaurant and pool areas, but the routes to the bungalows were very bumpy cobblestone paths that were difficult for suitcases. I imagine it would not be useable for anyone with mobility issues. We brought a stroller for our little one and ended up not using it after one attempt. Amenities: small things like a coffee/tea machine in the rooms, or bottled water in the fridges would go a long way. Not a deal breaker, but it’s a bit of a pain to have to walk across the property to get a coffee, drink or fill your water (when they’re open). You end up stocking your own mini fridge in advance-something that could be cheaply and easily remedied in my opinion. Overall though, we had a great time and found the resort otherwise very accommodating for our family and would recommend it to anyone who wants somewhere a little more quiet and willing to put a few more steps in.

We just arrived back home after spending a week at Media Luna in Roatan .this was our 3rd visit to the resort. WE generally go in late January or early Feb but this year my wife celebrated her Dec birthday there and it was wonderful . The rain only came at night and by morning the sun was out and it was hot.The staff remembered us from the previous year and some called us by our first name and believe it or not a lot of them remembered us the second time we arrived there too . The staff? how can I express my feelings towards them and do them justice they are truly the most talented caring helpful group of people I have ever had the pleasure of spending time with . There was never a time that I wanted for anything right from the guys on the beach to Kenny at the bar to all the servers and then the performers are just awesome. The majority of them I keep in touch with via social media because they have become such important parts of our lives .The cottages as I like to refer to them as are spacious and clean and the views are spectacular , I suggest for your first visit go for an Ocean Front Room you won t be disappointed but really all the grounds around Media Luna are beautiful. The beach is great for those beginner snorkeler's like we were when we first visited the resort, and now we have moved over to the dive shop area to snorkel its truly breath taking for sure, The food is excellent and there is always plenty of it for sure with a wide selection to choose from. There is a very quaint wine room were you can go and relax and enjoy a bottle of wine at a very reasonable cost , my wife and I like to go there after a long day of laying on the beach to relax . We have done some of the excursions my favorite would be swimming with the dolphins and I strongly recommend that one and also the trip into West Bay is another fun experience as well. If you are looking for a beautiful warm relaxing spot to spend a week with your loved one then Media Luna is the place to go , and on a personnel note we have booked to return next month for a week with my mom . That will be 4 times in 3 years with many more to come I hope . If you get the chance make sure you say hi to Lorenza she is the manager of the resort and would do anything in her power to ensure you are enjoying your stay.

Yours Truly Brian Harris...
