This is an outstanding hotel, not only because it’s so beautiful, but also because the staff is so amazing and dedicated to making every detail of your stay perfect. Let me tell you my own personal story, briefly. My wife is originally from Mexico and for our 25th wedding anniversary, I wanted to surprise her with a recommitment ceremony in Campeche that included not only her brother and sisters from Mexico (who couldn’t attend 25 years ago in the US) but would also include the very unique and special cultural elements of a traditional Mexican wedding (the lasso, the “arras coins”, the sand bottle, etc). I reached out to Hacienda Puerta Campeche and was put into contact with Mr. Enrique Solari, the General Manager for the entire Bonvoy Haciendas Collection of which this boutique hotel in Campeche is just one (there are several others in other cities, apparently). Mr. Solari was so kind and gregarious. I think he could sense that I was nervous trying to arrange so much from so far away and in a foreign language, and he immediately understood my desire for something special for my wife. Mr. Solari totally put me at ease and promised that his team would deliver an amazing evening for us – and wow, they did! Mr. Solari organized a team for me to work with there at the Hacienda Puerte Campeche that included everyone from the concierge to the head chef. Next, he put me in touch with Ms. Carla Roldan, who is the Director of Sales for the Haciendas Collection. Let me tell you, this lady is amazing! She speaks perfect English and she organized every single tiny detail of this wonderful evening, even down to ordering flowers in our room (which Mr. Solari very generously upgraded to the Presidential Suite! Gracias!). Every aspect of this surprise re-commitment ceremony was planned out, with Ms. Roldan even preparing a moment by moment Excel spreadsheet of the timing of events (which was very good for me to have as I was very nervous). First, Ms. Roldan planned and organized a lovely dinner of traditional “Campechano” cuisine. Then, at the conclusion of the meal, I surprised my wife by getting down on one knee and proposing all over again. I had arranged for some wedding dresses all the necessary wedding items to be delivered in advance by some friends to Ms. Roldan there at the hotel, and she made sure everything was perfect, even purchasing my wife a few things to freshen up with in the room, making sure the A/C was on, etc. And on top of all this, and entirely on her own, Ms. Roldan purchased a large bag of rose petals which she dropped in front of my wife as she walked down the aisle (which was actually the very beautiful courtyard where there is an ancient tree growing). Simply stated, this was an amazing evening and my wife and I are both so very thankful to Mr. Solari, Ms. Roldan and the entire staff there at Hotel Puerte Campeche for all they did to make it so. I would give 10 stars if I could. This evening was so meaningful to my wife and I and we are both very grateful for the memories we now have from this...
Read moreTruly a Beautiful spot. Right inside the old walled city, beside the main gate. Our room was the top of the line the “El Presidente” or something like that. We stayed for three nights. We never did find the fireplace that the website say is in the room. |Hotel staff were very helpful, polite and respectful. Special thanks to J’esus ( apologies for spelling)|The Hacienda is ideally located on the main tourist drag. Lots to explore. The hotel restaurant has great food and attentive staff. The vegetable ceviche was really good. |The patio furniture needs replacement|The pools though beautiful are not heated and quite chilly. Hard to understand at a Marriot Bonvoy LUXURY Edition having unheated pools. Perhaps they should market them as sparkling chilly cenotes for the overheated guest. One of the pools has a beautiful hammock that stretches over it. If you can tough out the chilly water to get to it, it is a magical spot for a siesta. |Lots of world travellers to converse with and quiet nooks and crannies for private rendezvous. |The city is olde. Late-at night if you listen closely you can here the clash of cutlasses the laughter and cursing of olde pyrates, fun loving seafarers and the echoing gait of a peg legged pirate ambling down the cobblestoned alleys. |Look for the black one eyed ghost cat “ISREALHANDS” we calls him. He magically appears from time to time on the hotel grounds and the walls above the town’s portcullis. He does seem to purrfur the haunted sentry post atop the olde Castillo. You will know the one…it smells of brimestone. I calls it the Devil’s Sentry box. |The Hacienda was pricey for us, but totally worth it. Would I stay again…well only if management tells me where the fireplace is in that beautiful room. Seriously we would love to stay again. The staff is so attentive. We thank them all for a wonderful visit|We were there during a full moon. It really is a beautiful and romantic Hacienda. |I think the Marriot has three more of these exclusive Haciendas in olde Mexico. They are on our “Lista de deseos”|So…if you are ever in Olde Campeche on a magical moonlit night…we recommend following a one eyed black cat. You will be on your way to mystery, intrigue and...
Read moreThe reception it's super messy and ugly with an horrible door resembling a service backdoor, on check in nobody offered to carry our luggage. ( the recepcionist was super friendly dough) The room was just ok, ( the no 1, Pres. suit) but lacked attention to detail, for example only 1 bath robe for both of us, or painting peeling off the walls, or our terrace only had pillows on the huge metal chairs for a couple of hours on the first day, making the terrace useless for most of the time of our staying and the TV set it s in a place where it s unwatchable. The pool was dirty during all of our stay and murky because of 1 day of rain just before we arrived and nobody bothered to clean it or clear it up, the pool was 1 of the attractive things of the hotel, it was a shame to be like that. The garden was kind of dirty too and had old furniture thrown on the lawn. At breakfast we were served margarine to spread on the bread! MARGARINE! In a luxury COLLECTION IT S UNACCEPTABLE and disgusting... The French fries served with our rool service burguers were old and tough, disgusting too. Not an amazing experience honestly. It s a shame because it s a beautiful property but it is very poorly...
