Staying at BT Tulum last week was far from the idyllic retreat we had anticipated. Upon arrival, we were surprised to find that the lock on our front door could only be secured from the outside, leaving us unable to lock ourselves in at night. Despite raising our concerns with the management, we were assured of our safety, but the reassurance did little to alleviate our discomfort, especially given the hotel's open beachfront which allowed for unrestricted access to the hotel grounds at any hour.||Our unease was compounded by the limited dining options provided under the "all-inclusive" breakfast scheme. With my partner unable to consume the sole offering of eggs and toast due to dietary restrictions, it took a protracted discussion with the hotel manager to secure an alternative meal option. This lack of flexibility was disappointing.||Additionally, the on-site restaurant and bar's early closing time at around 4 PM meant that guests were left to fend for themselves for dinner and evening refreshments. This inconvenience was further exacerbated by the tap water in our bathroom, which tasted unmistakably of salt, suggesting a lack of proper filtration.||Our stay was also marred by a power outage that seemed to affect only our hotel, while neighboring properties remained lit and functional. This incident was dismissively attributed to a wider area issue, a claim belied by the visible electricity in adjacent hotels.||Though situated on the beach, offering the potential for nights filled with the soothing sound of waves, this small luxury was often overshadowed by loud house music from a neighboring restaurant that persisted until the early hours.||In summary, our experience at BT Tulum was underwhelming, marred by issues ranging from security concerns and limited dining options to inadequate amenities and a lack of tranquility. Despite the allure of beachfront accommodations, the overall quality of our stay was mediocre, leading us to advise against this hotel for those in search of a peaceful and comfortable...

Read moreThis place is simply amazing! We extensively researched every possible option before we finally zeroed in on this and it exceeded our expectations. If you're like us and are on the lookout for a "literally on the beach" kind of experience without breaking the bank, I think it can't get any better than this. Go for the beachfront bungalows here, no other place in Tulum has this, definitely not at this price. Very secluded too. The bungalows are big, with big bathrooms, good sized windows and a cozy balcony. The location is EPIC, this is the part of the strip you want to stay in. It's super walkable to all the beach clubs, convenience stores and the nightly stuff. Mr. Paco at the reception, the restaurant staff and the housekeeping (Ana & Nancy) staff are all very friendly, helpful and kind. We even got a free room upgrade which was awesome. The included free breakfast is no frills. Honestly, we were more than okay with it.
Finally, our two cents: If you're expecting an all inclusive resort/boutique luxury, this isn't it. If you need a swimming pool/private pool, this isn't it. But hey, the OCEAN is at your doorstep!
This is a small hotel with insane access to the beach, polite hospitality, free parking and a laidback lifestyle. It's not noisy whatsoever, like I said, beachfront rooms are closer to the ocean than to the street!
We spent over a week in the Riviera Maya and made this our home base. Drove around here n there: Akumal, ruins, a bunch of good cenotes, Chichén, Valladolid, etc.
The starting point to the Siaan Kaan biosphere is just like a mile or two from here and not to be missed if you have the right kinda vehicle.
Would revisit &...
