Las Chullpas is a great place to stay while in the Sacred Valley area of Peru. I was in the Sacred Valley to experience the Andean culture and Inca archaeology and I knew that the entire area was very rural and under developed, so I wasn't expecting a five star thousand dollar a day resort. That said, Las Chullpas offered a clean, friendly and economical environment to use as a base for exploring the region. Rooms were clean and well made. The staff was friendly and helpful and the food that was prepared for us was fantastic. I particularly enjoyed the toasted Inca Corn (choclo) that was offered as snacks in the dining room. ||||There were other guests staying and we all became friends and spent hours around the fire pit at night, singing songs and recounting that days adventures. When I would retire to my room there was always firewood waiting at my door for the fireplace, though I never needed it. The beds were warm and I never had an issue with hot water or any other plumbing problems that can be commonplace in this area.||||I enjoyed the company of the dogs and cat that make themselves available for petting while sitting outside on the lovely grounds. There are plenty of neat things to explore around the perimeter and a great hiking trail that leads up the mountain to some pre-Incan ruins that you'll have all to yourself. All in all, I would definitely recommend Las Chullpas to anyone visiting the area and I hope to return again...
Read moreSeveral years ago I was invited to spend Christmas Eve at a friends house in Urubamba. As we arrived at his gate I looked up at some ruins and had the feeling that I was someplace very special. One week later I was going with a group to a lodge in Urubamba and my heart soared as we passed my friends house and entered a gate at the base of the ruins. Las Chullpas is a lovely lodge with beautiful gardens and easy accesses to the ruins above it. Each room is unique and have wood burning fireplace or stove. This is not a commercial hotel with modern buildings and nor would I ever want it to be. It is a great place to explore that lovely valley from and maybe take a horseback ride with Frontierlab up into the valley or join a two day trek (I haven't researched this but I think you can trek through that valley all the way to Lares and noticed some pack mule/camping treks headed up that way. It is also a lovely place to stay with a group and arrange some cooking lessons with Nancy.... Highly recommend if you came to Peru to see Peru and not...
Read moreIf you want to get away from the city and stay next to the mountains and ruins, this is the place! I stayed here for 3 nights and did several hikes on my own, but also just relaxed in the garden. The lodge is next to the Las Chullpas ruins - a short hike that you can do in less than 1 hour or so. And you dont need a guide - However, if you want to - then just ask Julietta to take you and she will show you the way (btw Julietta is one of the dogs guarding the lodge :))||The lodge itself is magic and peaceful, different types of rooms with a fireplace as well - it is awesome :) Mrs Nelly cooks for you, breakfast, lunch and dinner if you want - and both quality and price is good!||Edna who is the daily manager of the lodge is doing a great job - always available and helpful if you need advice in regards to hike or other things.||I planned to stay at lodge for just one night but ended up staying for three nights :)||A big "Thank you" to Fabrizzio and Nancy for letting me know about this place while staying at Pisonay Pueblo just a mile...
