Awful experience. If you are a solo woman/person especially, I would steer clear of this place at all costs. My partner and I booked a private room- the smell of sewer gas was so strong in the bedroom/bathroom, the sink drained all over the floor, and the walls were moldy and dirty. The lights in the hallway were left off, and the owner Mr. Kim’s weight lifting bench was in the kitchen. Very creepy and unsettling. We turned around and left within 15 minutes. The owner became very hostile and aggressive and almost immediately called the police on us when we told him that the room was dirty and we didn’t want to pay for the full 4-nights stay, and that we were finding other accommodation. We WERE however going to pay the deposit and the first night, even though we turned around right after entering, and the cancellation policy was only the first night’s fee for same day cancellations. I had seen some negative reviews about the owner’s bad character or reservation issues but dismissed them- I wish I hadn’t. Fortunately we found another hotel in the area that night after wandering around at 10:30pm. The area itself is good, so I’d suggest another property in the same area. The experience was traumatizing, quite frankly.

Pros: - near subway station Anguk exit 6 - easy access from and to airport using airport shuttle bus 6011 - near major tourist attractions such as insadong antique street, gyeongbokgung palace, gwanghwamun square, bukchon etc, all within walking distance - near traditional restaurant - clean room - fast wifi - clean bathroom - breakfast included - owner very nice - have a cute big cat - many more Cons: - don't have elevator so use stairs only. If you have a big luggage it can be a problem. But the owner willing to help to bring your luggage - twin room a bit small but double room quite spacious. For muslim, hard to pray inside the room. It's ok anyway - if you don't like cat, you probably can't hang out in the kitchen area. I like cat a lot so no problem with it So far, I recommend this place to stay in Seoul. Want to come back for sure ^^

Even better than I was expecting! The room is spacious (2 twin beds) and love the privacy the bathroom provides! As I read some of the reviews, keep in mind it is an older building, if you want fancy go stay at a hotel! It is in a great location, at a great price! You get a clean bed, a bathroom, free breakfast, towels (which a lot of hostels don't provide! Or at a fee!) and even shampoo/conditioner/body soap (which again many hostels don't!) in a safe (solo, female) place. As to Mr. Kim, he was friendly and helpful! (Keep in mind when you don't speak the same language people can come off as rude but it's bc of their limited English- I mean you could learn Korean! ) And as for the cats, I mean it's advertised everywhere that there are cats around, don't like cats, don't come. P.s they're not in the room, just common areas.

Probably the best place to stay in Seoul.

Location: it's right next to Anguk Station, 5 mins walk, around the corner to Insadong Street, a huge mall and in-between 2 convenience stores. And it's in the middle of most places you're most likely to visit making the trip back quicker than most other places.

Price wise it's great! The owner really caters to the guests, provides you good rooms and group discounts. If you are a returning guest, you also get a discount!

Lodging: above average for a hostel. There are washing mashines on the rooftop and places to let your clothes dry, no extra charge. Rooms are comfy and nice with airco, private bathrooms, and a mini fridge. Towels replaced everyday and linens changed as well. Everything is always clean.

Food: Breakfast buffet everyday included with any room arrangement, you only need to clean up after yourself (which is a common thing everywhere you go to eat). Also be mindful of other people wanting to eat and vacate the place as soon as you're done eating. There are also free noodle cups you can take at any time! Apart from that, you can also get an assortment of bevereages from a nearby fridge at any time in an honor system kind of fashion (you place the money for it in a nearby can).

The owner: the reason we always come back! Mr. Kim is the nicest and most attentive person you'll meet, despite his difficulty with English (which he has improved at!) he will do absolutely everything he can for you. To him guests aren't just guests, they're friends who came to see him, and he loves socializing with everyone!

The Mascot: we will leave it to you to meet Uni and fall in love with the fattest and cutest cat in all of Seoul!

All in all, we can't say enough thank you to Mr. Kim for everything. See...

Do not go here. This hostel does not deserve its rating. I do not understand how it got this rating. It was very cramped. There was no air conditioning and it was so hot you could not sleep. the room was so crowded you had to go outside to change clothes. I could not charge my devices as there was no plug for korean power points and the plugs that were there did not work. The bathroom was not clean. I did not feel safe here, the front door was open late at night but all the lights were off. It was difficult to get into the room because it was so dark. The beds were very hard but couldn’t sleep anyway because it was so hot and stuffy. You could also hear people talking outside the building till very late. The manager was not nice following you around in kitchen and being intimidating. He refused to give refund because I wanted to leave early due to the fact that this hostel did not provide advertised service. Nor did the 4 bed dorm room match the photograph in the advertising. In reality so small and cramped so this picture was a lie. Also while hostel is in Insadong it is very hard to find and impossible to be taken there by car or taxi so if you have extra luggage you have to carry it all the way. Other hostels that are this cramped in this area with air conditioning are half the price and would be kinder. This was the worst place I stayed in over a...
