The Terror Hotel from Hell
I cannot recommend this hotel. It’s faded glory, old, badly maintained rooms from 50 years ago that do not cater to the modern traveller—no work desk (no place to put your laptop), let alone sockets to charge your laptop, smartphone and tablet.
On top of that, Pullman and the Novotel next door have limited the minimum temperature of the air conditioning to 27 degrees Celsius. Yes, you read that correctly: the minimum temperature. The only way to get it below that is opening the window, and then enjoy the loud party vibes from the Novotel next door. So you either open the windows and use ear plugs, or you sleep in a sauna all night. I realize Spain has laws mandating minimum airco temperatues, but these apply to public spaces, not hotel rooms. That Pullman abuses those to save money is a disgrace.
Their room cards fail all the time. I had to get new ones about twice a day, even while I carefully kept them away from my smartphone. Horrible old technology.
The restaurant: if you order a starter and a main course, you will get both at the same time. This faded glory hotel does not even know the proper etiquette, as they effortlessly combine all the bad things from 50 years ago with horrors of the modern day.
To make the horridness complete, they started working with loud drilling machines and other equipment every morning from 9 hours onwards. So by the time the temperature in your room gets somewhat bearable, they rudely wake you up.
I’ll give it to them: when trying to give you the worst time possible, they’re perfectionists. Avoid this hotel—and the Novotel next door—especially in the summer time (unless you like to be in a sauna 24/7), and check if other hotels in Madrid have this same 27 degrees Celsius minimum policy before...
Read moreWe stayed here seven nights as part of a Real Madrid soccer camp package. Unfortunately this hotel felt entitled to charge customers the full price while carrying out massive construction during all working hours. This is a horrible experience for families who have kids playing soccer, especially considering everyone is dealing with jet lag.
We woke up one night to water pouring in the hallway. Luckily we hadn’t left anything in the hallway or it would’ve been ruined. No apologies from the hotel for flooding our room or for having repair issues while we were trying to get ready for the day.
There is not a way to change the temperature system in the room as it’s locked. For a four star hotel, this isn’t standard.
The breakfast was served next door at the Novotel, and the chef has completely given up on any variety of food. The staff could either be extremely warm or hostile, which leads me to believe there is zero management in either hotel(s). By day seven, we were so over the breakfast buffet!
The pluses are the lifeguard (he was very nice-and there is a lifeguard), and the cleaning staff was beyond gracious. I felt bad that she had to work for a poorly run organization.
The digital situation at the hotel is deplorable with the TV menu blinking out and WiFi not working at all in some areas.
I emailed management multiple times with zero response. They clearly don’t care and are entitled due to the proximity of the hotel to the airport and other facilities. Avoid both of these hotels...
Read moreWe paid for a more luxury room to celebrate a birthday but this added nothing to making it special. The additional space of the lobby was lit by only two small lamps. This created a very dark middle of the suite to have to walk through to get anywhere. Oddly it looked like there weren't any other lights fitted so nothing was broken but they've just planned to have a very dark room? Very odd.
Restaurant had no options for vegans.
The beddings whilst soft and comfy it wasn't breathable at all and was quite sweaty during the night.
It was nice that a sweat bowl was left but we couldn't eat them as there was no label to tell us what was in them.
I was pleased that dental products were included in the toiletries as most hotels miss this but it's the most helpful.
The slippers were very soft.
Slippers and toiletries were wrapped in paper. Didn't notice any single use plastic in the room, very impressed by that.
The only bin was in the bathroom, bit annoying for general and tea bags to have to keep walking round to the bathroom.
Breakfast was ok but not all items were labelled and some of the labels were in the wrong place. We had to bother staff to tell us what each thing was. Waste of their time that could be improved by just labelling...
