Bougainvillea Retreat — Hotel in Sri Lanka

To call Bougainvillea 'boutique' is to do it a great disservice - its like coming home! The property is a private residence that the Dutch owners designed, built and departed from, only to visit at Christmas and for other special holidays. In the meantime, we had the benefit of their beautiful home, hosted by Shannon - a Sri Lankan with an Irish first name and Portuguese surname - but a plethora of skills that include - but not limited to - front of house, pool attendant, guide and master chef. To be fair we did arrive on a Sunday, which seemed to everyone's day off except his. The master chef title is not lightly given as he produced exquisite five course meals, in between ensuring our every need was met. The property has stunning views across its own pool and overlooking Victoria reservoir, sitting also neatly above Victoria Golf Course. We truly felt 'part of the family' here in this house that also benefits from some really interesting contemporary artworks on virtually every wall. Wow on arrival the scenery really did take my breath away, this boutique home is done mapped out superbly. We was warmed by friendly, attentitive staff with a lovely refreshing drink and cool towel. After being assisted to our garden room, I continued with a very big smile to see a massive, comfortable bed and a spacious room equipped with everything we need for our 3 night stay. When taking a nice warm shower, I looked up to see an amazing view of the beautiful skies Sri Lanka offers. A delicious 3 course meal that evening that left my mouth fulfilled with the most amazing flavours! Today we will soak up the sun around the wonderful infinity pool and stretch out with Yoga this afternoon. I actually don’t know where to start, we left today and I feel homesick. This place was just utterly divine and we were so lucky to spend a few nights here. Nothing in Sri Lanka can compare! As soon as you walk in you are welcomed and made to feel like home, it really was just the perfect oasis surrounded by beauty! It rained throughout our entire stay but that did not dampen our thoughts, I totally fell in love with this place and can’t wait to return. PLUS there are the most adorable animals, incredible food!
