Ella Gypsies Hostel — Hotel in Sri Lanka

Can't recommend that place. When we arrived the host was not aware of our booking and our room was occupied. We were offered another room which was extremely wet, smelly and had mold. The host said that it rained a lot and they would paint it again when the raining stopped. Charming. There was also no one else in the hostel. We reserved it via hostelworld and are still waiting for the refund of our partial upfront payment, which was promised daily to be brought tomorrow. The only reason I give two stars is because the host, different person than the owner, was very engaged to find us a different location. We went next door to the Jasmine Garden Inn and the host is incredible....

Stayed for a week, we had a great time. The staff onsite are incredibly kind and friendly and stay on top of things. We had a private room which had a large and very comfortable bed. I work remotely and was able to do so from the communal table downstairs.

There can sometimes be noise in the evenings from nearby events but that happens in most places in Sri Lanka so it’s not really uncommon/something they can do...
