Hotel East Lagoon — Hotel in Sri Lanka

Very DISAPPOINTED and BAD Service||In case if you are planning to leave from this hotel in late nights, please do NOT depend on ride from this hotel. ||Here is my experience, I traveled to Colombo, Sri Lanka and reserved the East Lagoon hotel for 2 nights on December 19 to 21. Took the train from Colombo to Batticaloa arrived late night (around 11 PM) on December 19th, where no issues in the transportation from Batticaloa railway station to the hotel, since I hired a tuk tuk from the station (plenty of them available as they wait for passengers from the train). ||Next day, before I leave from the hotel in the morning I went to the front desk and asked the receptionist (his name is Dhanush) for a taxi or tuk tuk later in the night (around midnight) to catch the train from Batticaloa station (leaving at 1.30 AM on Dec 21, 2023) to back in Colombo. His response was "yes no problem we can call the tuk tuk any time and not an issue". So I trusted his answer and I did my personal visits in Batticaloa and later in the afternoon/evening went for walk in the town. It was a very beautiful experience and enjoyed my short visit to this beautiful city (went after more than 35 years to this city). ||Later in the evening I came back to my hotel room, refreshed and had a rest for couple hours. Closer to midnight I packed my stuff and went to reception to check out and asked for tuk tuk service. Same person (Dhanush) told me that nothing available and you have to find your own way. I was shocked and replied to him saying that "you confirmed in the morning and now you are saying no", for that he simply said "we can NOT do anything and you can walk from here and catch a tuk tuk near some hospital". Very arrogantly told me and not even apologizing it or didn't find a way to help me out. Simply walked away and he was concentrating on his other work (importantly made sure to get the money from me for 2 nights and gave me the invoice, which I have the scanned copy attached and it has all the times of check in and out). ||I waited for 5 minutes as I was expecting them to arrange something but no response. So I took a risk and walked away in the midnight (security at the gate was shocked and he tried calling someone and no luck). Please think that I'm going to this town after more than 35 years and everything changed (don't know the streets well too), raining, carrying a big bag, very dark and some areas of the road doesn't have lights, not a straight road to station and plenty of street dogs all over the place (which are very aggressive in the night). Finally took me about 30 minutes to arrive at the station with full of mud on my feet where I stepped in darker areas of the road. VERY BAD EXPERIENCE AND SO PANICKED until I reached the station.||If they have told me this response in the morning (when I inquired in the morning for the taxi service later in the night), then I would have pre-arranged through my contacts in the morning or arranged from the town (I saw so many travels and taxi services in the town area).||Therefore, I request you to think twice or more before you stay here and/or make sure not to depend on the transport services from this hotel. Also if this hotel not in a position to help (which they promised me in the morning) how can they help on other matters like medical/family emergencies etc. during late nights? When they run a hotel shouldn't they have any transportation or make sure its available at any time? Very strange and I did not expect as I have stayed much smaller hotels in remote are and they always provide transport anytime or arrange it somehow.||Any how I wouldn't recommend this place for my friends or others and I want to share my experience with this hotel to you. Please be careful and before making any reservations||Thanks for reading this...

Disappointing Stay – Would Not Recommend

I recently stayed at this, and unfortunately, it was one of the worst hotel experiences I’ve ever had. From the moment I arrived, things went downhill fast.

First, check-in took forever because the front desk staff seemed completely disorganized. After finally getting my key, I walked into my room only to find that it hadn’t been properly cleaned there was dust everywhere, there were no comforter at all. When we ask for it they bring us bedsheets and told it was a comforter. the bathroom had hair in the sink, the bed was so uncomfortable couldn’t able to sleep properly.

The amenities were equally disappointing. The “free Wi-Fi” barely worked, and the air conditioning was so loud I could hardly sleep. Speaking of sleep, I was woken up multiple times due to paper-thin walls that let me hear everything from the hallway and adjacent rooms.

Breakfast was another disaster. The options were extremely limited, they mentioned it’s was a buffet but ended up we need to order food. from a hotel claiming to offer a “delicious complimentary breakfast.”

For the price I paid, I expected a basic level of cleanliness and service, but this place failed in almost every category. I definitely would not stay here again and wouldn’t recommend...

My experience at this hotel was extremely disappointing. obvious issues with the air conditioning unit, the staff provide us with a new room but the same issues were exists. The rooms were riddled with damages. Wall paper along the wall was seen peeled off. Despite a great location and a grand look from outside, The room cleanliness is very poor. Basic amenities were not provided. Ac not working. No shampoo or shower gel, no Hand wash, no toothpaste or tooth brush, No quilt on the bed. Some dirty chairs snd cupboards. Overall impression of the hotel was lacking. Disappointed overall. I feel for these reasons, I strongly advise against this booking is waste of money and bad feel of stays.

Front office staffs are improfessional even not helpful. When you enter into the hotel reception, they didn’t even greet the guest, There was no waiting place with A/C until the room is ready. they even didn’t switch the fan for guest on the heat day of our arrival. No guidance for parking either.

Breakfast not included, you need to pay extra for breakfast but Just a small choice of breakfast. not worth of money. Very disappointed overall. I won’t recommend this...
