Decent beachfront stay with room for improvement.

We stayed at Hotel J, Negombo on the 1st of May, and overall, it was a decent experience with a mix of positives and areas that could use improvement.

The property enjoys a beautiful view of the beach, and the rooftop bar offers a relaxing atmosphere with a great sunset view, one of the highlights of our stay.

Check-in was smooth, and the staff helped carry our luggage to the room. The hotel has only one elevator, so during peak hours, it can be a bit slow.

Our room was basic but okay, with towels, shampoo, and shower gel provided. At check-in, we were told that bottled water isn't provided, but there are paper cups in the room and a water filter on each floor. While that’s understandable from an eco perspective, it felt a little inconvenient since we had to step out often just for water.

There were a few downsides in the room:

The AC was noisy and didn’t cool the room properly, possibly because the balcony door didn’t close fully, which may have let warm air in.

Also, there was no large mirror, which would’ve been helpful.

The outdoor area is lovely, with direct beach access, which we really enjoyed. There’s a pool, but it didn’t feel very clean during our visit, we even saw a baby diaper near the pool area, which was off-putting. The shower room near the pool had an unpleasant smell, which also needs attention. That said, the sunbeds by the beach were a great spot to relax and watch the sunset.

Parking is available nearby, and we found the staff to be friendly and helpful throughout our stay.
