Mission House Hiriketiya — Hotel in Sri Lanka

It was a nice stay but the laundry service really was a total rip off. The hosts mother welcomed us and said she could do our laundry if we want. Unfortunately we did not ask for the price beforehand, that’s our fault for sure but we would have never expected to be charged TRIPLE the amount other places charge for laundry! They wanted us to pay 7.000 Rupies for about 4kg of laundry. That’s a total skam. But we were so overwhelmed when they knocked on the door saying „pay money now“ that we did not have a chance to discuss. And on top: the laundry is not clean at all, some pieces seem to not have been washed at all. There are some stains that normally would have been gone after washing and nothing too complicated to clean. So 20€ for dirty laundry is the biggest scam we had here so far.

The house is so clean and has everything you would want or need, there was always someone on hand to assist with anything we needed - our room was so comfy, and with A/C and a fan it was the perfect place to relax after a long day at the beach. The property is in a perfect location, very quiet and peaceful at night and less than a 10minute walk down to Hiriketiya Beach (even less to King Bay!). There are a variety of restaurants, shops and amenities very close to the property. The host's very own cafe (Duni's Hoppers; 5-10mins walk) is absolutely amazing - you even get a 20% discount! - we went every day for breakfast and it was some of our favourite food across our whole trip!

We would absolutely love to return to Mission House when we one day return...

Truly a home away from home. We were greeted with a warm welcome by the host Duni.

Comfortable and spacious rooms with AC and cute interior. And not to mention reasonably priced. The property is located very close to all the main beaches in the area. Everything is just a walk away from the property.

We were treated to a cup of tea by the host’s parents who made us feel like their own family.
