Mount-Villa — Hotel in Sri Lanka

What a wonderful place! It is in a great location in Mount Lavinia being only 100 metres back from the beach.||||This is recently refurbished guesthouse run by business partners Tara and Nihal. It is immaculate and has 8 rooms, 4 A/C and 4 fan. There is also a nice restaurant area. ||||There is a very pleasant garden and an immaculate new swimming pool. The pool is not large but it has a water jet at one end that you can swim against for some real exercise.||||We chose one of the fan rooms on the top floor and were pleased with the extra touches like a plug in mozzie killer (not a problem when we were there), kettle and multiple power sockets. The room was spotlessly clean with very comfortable beds and soft fluffy towels. They even provided pool towels. It had a balcony too.||||We only had the included breakfast there and it was excellent with a large plate of fruit. Juice, tea/coffee and eggs.||||Tara and Nihal both speak perfect english and Nihal was very helpful in helping us with our sight seeing plans. He organised a tuk tuk for a tour Colombo at a reasonable price and metered tuk tuks for our other trips. Our visit coincided with the famous Parahera festival and Nihal recommend staying an extra night to visit it. We are glad we took his advice because it was wonderful with thousands of dancers and musicians and dozens of elephants.||||There is a bus stop a few hundred metres away where you can catch a bus into Colombo and Mt Lavinia train station is quite near.||||When we left a member of his staff even used the guesthouses own tuk tuk to take us to the station.||||I can thoroughly recommend this guesthouse. We were booked into this guest house by booking.com last minute because the previous place we had booked had to close down before the holidays for some reason. We did not have time to look around for a second choice, so we did not know what we were getting into. However, when we arrived at Mount Villa, we were pleasantly surprised how practical the guesthouse was for our purposes.||||The villa itself consisted of several rooms and our room was rather compact, but had a place for everything. Title: Misleading Photos – Very Disappointing Stay

I booked this place because the photos on Booking.com, Google Maps, and Agoda looked amazing – beautiful pool, luxury-looking rooms, and everything very clean. In reality, it’s completely different. The “pool” is not a swimming pool at all – it’s basically a pond with water, not usable for swimming.

The rooms were nothing like the pictures. They were old, poorly maintained, and not clean. It felt more like a cheap short-time local hotel in Colombo than the luxury stay we were expecting. For the high price we paid, this was extremely disappointing.
