The bar area of this hotel looked okay when I enquired about accommodation so in good faith I paid for a double room. What a disaster. The carpets leading to the bedrooms was stained, there was paper peeling off the wall, there was a hole in the plasterboard in the bathroom where the old cistern had been removed and a smaller one installed, part of the bath panel had been kicked in, the hot/cold taps didn't work in the shower which was over the bath, the curtains were 3 inches too short at the window. The fridge in the room was full of crumbs and had two bottles of juice still in it which must have been left by a previous occupant. The tea tray had dirty cups on it and this was at 7 pm in the evening !! The dated pine cabinet in the bathroom had lumps of toothpaste in it and on the edge of the bath there was a green scourer and a bar of used soap. Yuk. To be fair, the carpet in our bedroom was new and the bedding on our bed, which I thoroughly inspected, was clean. Thank goodness the price was for room only, as I wouldn't have eaten breakfast in the place even if they paid me. As I said earlier the bar was okay and seems to have been done up. If it wasn't a peak time of the year we would have demanded our money back and tried to find other accommodation but places we had tried were all booked up and we thought we had better stick with this mucky place as we weren't sure if we would get anywhere else at that...

Read moreIf you are looking for luxury accommodation, this isn't the place for you ,very tired decor, it is a hotel for workmen, if you have been out digging a ditch all day and want somewhere basic to rest your head ,this is the place for you ,when I was there there were thunderstorms which introduced an unknown extra to our room, an indoor water feature,a big leak in the roof right above the bed ,in the main lobby of the top floor the plinking and plonking of the water hitting buckets was quite musical, shared bathrooms, more DNA evidence in there than a mass murder scene in CSI Miami, the staff were really nice and friendly, no one showed us to our room as I don't think they would have made it upstairs alive as they were getting on a wee bit , I've stayed in worse places ,but it was while helping with disaster...
