Wonderful place wonderful owners who make you feel totally at home - except my home is nowhere near as posh! Just got here today, am going to book for a further two days at least.
Oh dear, that's a lesson in waiting until you leave before writing a review.
Breakfast is supposedly served until 9 am. However when I got to the dining room at 10 minutes before 9, I was told breakfast was over and the chef had gone home. I was starving and not best pleased. I complained to the lady present and she said she'd pass it on. On ckeck out I was given a £10 discount, however there's no alternative breakfast available at any cost for many miles around.
Two days later, I remembered that on arrival I had given the owner a bottle of wine and asked if it could be put in a fridge to chill. He said he'd put it in one of the bar fridges. As I was close to Tomintoul I went back and found the doors to be locked. So I called the number on the invoice but the number was out of use. I tried the mobile number, it worked, but I was told he would not be back at the premises until late afternoon. After 10 minutes, someone unlocked the door so I entered and walked around calling out but no-one responded. I even went behind the bar and checked the fridges, but my bottle was nowhere to be found.
I can picture the scene. The owner not having to pay the chef, or buy the breakfast ingredients, so saving a few quid. I as guest temporarily annoyed but placated with £10 off. But to then sit and enjoy my bottle of wine?
What say you?
So, no response.
The breakfast I did find cost £17, and a fiver in fuel to get to it. The frustration at the breach of verbal contract is harder to cost. The wine however was £24.
I expect a response within 7 days - that's by 30 Oct. If you do not provide a satisfactory response by then, I shall stop looking.
However, I shall be back up round your way again before the year ends, and I will come and see you to seek satisfaction. I...
Read moreI stayed three nights here during a trip to the highlands in late 2017, the building is worth visiting for alone - like a lot of the architecture in the small village of Tomintoul it is almost as if you have driven straight into the late 18th Century.
The hotel is pleasant, for the price I paid I was reasonably happy with what I received - the room was large with a fairly comfortable double bed, a small shower room and a nice view over the village square.
The bar downstairs has an exceptional collection of different whiskies and if you can't get your fill there then the Whisky Castle next door is genuinely world renowned for its expansive selections of single malts and special bottlings.
If you are in the area (and I recommend you being so at some point) then you could probably do better in terms of comfort with other hotels but the location of the Richmond Arms is enough to offset comfort...
Read moreWe did not stay but popped by for food. The food was lovely. Service however- the woman serving a very loud bad mannered work shy unprofessional rude an unwelcoming. The last thing she wanted to do was serve due to her own burger just being served to her! Did not read the specials to us and roared at me to sit down as I stood an squinted to read across the room. An off the street local popped by for a drink an was allowed to stand and talk and not roared at to sit. She then proceeded to talk very loudly reading off her phone to local customers and play videos to them really loudly and talking very loudly the whole time. The manager who eventually finished the service while she ate was very nice though and we were glad to have our experience finished by him. Food good , barmaids...
