I had a terrible stay here ( April 3-5, 2025). I checked in at midnight and came to know that they don’t have their own self parking garage. Valet parking was $42 dollars almost 1/3 of the room rate. This is ridiculous! I will never come here again. I was forced to take it as the Valet guy said nearby public garage may or may not have space and is about 10 minute walk and does not have in and out privileges. I did not want to risk it at midnight with homeless folks running around. When we entered the room, it was spacious with tall ceilings ( that’s why it deserves the one star). But the floors were dirty and when I took my socks off and stepped out for a few steps to get into slippers, the floor was sticky! Whew! Disgusting… Then in the bathroom, there was no body lotion in that small container (Dove brand). It was literally empty no matter how I squeeze it. The phone was broken and I could not call the front desk. It had different room number written on it. There was no safe locker. The deadbolt was broken. The whole room and entry foyer felt like some 1800s home. When I saw the mattress, I could already see the depressions and When I rested on it it reaffirmed my doubts about the quality. I literally sinked in for 3-4 inches! It was the worst bed I slept on any name brand hotels in the last 15-20 years. Motel 6 beds were better when I used to stay there when I was a student. The curtain was torn at the top letting the light in (which is next to the busy street btw) and the room was not pitch dark. There was so much vehicle noise and music coming from the streets . The next day when I went to take bath, the shampoo and conditioner bottles were completely empty. I had to use body wash for the head bath. The breakfast was OK. If you are vegetarian, good luck! At least I eat eggs. No ‘real’ oatmeal. It’s the ready to go oatmeal in pockets-what? No potatoes- so many meat items. Some bread. Crappy coffee. Machine made pancakes were not well done and I have to throw them away. When I left the hotel for the day to visit the university, I told the front desk lady about all the issues (shampoo, body lotion, phone, curtain) and most importantly about the bed. She said she does not have any other room to assign me and could give me a refund if I wanted to check out. I was so tight on time for the next 8 hours, I did not think I can do that. I tried in between meetings to do and I did find some option but I have to comeback all the way again to check out and find parking in the university- which is difficult to get. I decided to suffer another night of misery. When I came back in the evening, the beds were made but the. shampoo, conditioner and body lotion bottles were not replaced - who does that? I had to come down to get those again later. When I complained, the lady did not seem to care and did not even say sorry for the inconvenience. I had to endure another night of torture - crappy bed, even more noise than previous night from the streets, broken curtain ring and then wake up to OK breakfast. When I was checking out, I complained to the front desk ( a different person every time), he did not care and didn’t even bother to take his earbuds out to listen to me and didn’t say sorry, didn’t say nothing! Where is the customer service mindset of these folks? Who hires these people? Overall, very bad experience, I could have stayed in a better Airbnb accommodation (no wonder people are moving out of these hotels) for a lot cheaper which I will do next time as my kid decided to go to the...
Read moreWe came up for a four day, three night stay. I'm a Rewards member and stay at Holiday Inn Express almost exclusively because of the quick free breakfasts and then out we go. We don't spend much time in the facility. PROS: Location - you're in walking distance of Playhouse Square, the beautiful Arcade, Public Square, the Cleveland Souvenir Shop and the Guardians' Progressive Stadium. A long walk to the Hofbrauhaus (which is a good for beer, a lively time and less than adequate German food.) A short Uber ride to The Brown's stadium and a number of good restaurants. Jazz clubs need an Uber ride. The lobby is classic embossed ceiling because it was the former City Bank Building. Breakfast area is on the mezzanine with lots of room and the standard buffet. The food attendants were very nice and helpful to the point that i tipped one attendant on my last morning. The shower/tub produced hot water immediately on an upper floor and lots of pressure if you want it. CONS: Valet parking is unlimited in and out, and the valets are very personable, but they woefully undermanned, so wait time is 10-20 minutes at peak times. $5 is a reasonable tip. I don't tip when bringing the car in. Daily parking charge is $35.00 because you're paying for the location. The reception check in out is very small and the attendant's charm can vary greatly especially if they are rushed or just don't seem to care. I experienced both. The building also contains conference rooms so it's a maze in comparison to your average Holiday Inn Express. The food selection was standard, but not hot with only one attendant, she was constantly busy. The room we stayed at was enormous, sparsely appointed and the mattresses were perfect. We slept exceptionally well rested. They do not clean every day unless you ask. There are NO charging portals so bring a plug in outlet. The thermostat didn't work and the hotel phone to the front desk did not work when we tried to get assistance. I went to the front desk the next morning and it was fixed the next day. The TV choices are very limited so be prepared to watch all the commercials. No movies. Hope this helps. And because of location and the free breakfasts, yes, I'll stay there again....
Read moreI WISH My friend would have did a little better investigating before booking this one, but something are just meant to be, and I guess our stay was meant to be.
I honestly would NOT recommend this hotel unless you are going in and out or you are there for business and just need to sleep.
There is nowhere for you to sit outdoors beside the front entrance where you have to physically sit on the sidewalk or hope the PNC security will allow you to sit on their ledge. Then the harassment comes from the passer byers. If you just want some air and don't want to leave hotel or just looking to relax after a long drive or just a long day to enjoy some Spring, Summer, or Fall air...that's a No Go Here!!
The downstairs lobby area has a horrible smell of sewer which I'm glad didn't go up to any of the floors where guest rooms are. The rooms themselves are very nice and clean... S/O to the housekeeping staff!!!
And to the gentleman in valet parking who do have phenomenal customer service, make sure your car comes down quickly, and we were always greeted with a smile.. it was appreciated gentlemen. GREAT SERVICE GIVEN!!!
The breakfast nook was so nice and clean. Mary and Monica really make sure that you feel welcomed while having breakfast. They made sure everything was stocked and that place was clean for you and your family to sit down and have a nice breakfast before heading out. GREAT SERVICE GIVEN!!!!!
But then there is the Front Desk gal....I wish I would have gotten the young lady's name that checked us in b/c she was worst customer service skills I have seen in a long time!!! WORSE than the smell in the lobby!!!! You could tell she really didn't want to be there or like her job for that matter. When was asked questions the answers were a yes or no with a s* attitude, and she couldn't wait till we got out of her face so she could get right back on her cell phone to talk to her friends. Just not a good look when you're first entering an establishment and...
