The only reason for a “one” rating is that there is no “ZERO.” The ONLY saving grace is that the window air conditioner worked. The Inn is interesting only in that it is an historic structure. It was once probably quite lovely. But you enter from the parking lot into a hall cluttered with stuff. Indeed, this is an indicator of what the rest of the inn is like--years of hoarded items, stuff, and more stuff, everywhere. Vacuums, bicycles, spare wood, all stuck in corners, an office overflowing with junk, tables covered in old newspapers. The whole place needs a deep cleaning and cleanout. The Inn was stuffy, like the windows had not been opened in years. Musty, dank, hard to breathe. With all that dirt and clutter, I would not be surprised if there were rodents and roaches.| The room was small. The decor was old and dusty. The windows were filthy. As another reviewer mentioned, the bathroom was likely once a closet, and contained a tiny standup shower and toilet. And then of course, there was no hot water.| The many pictures on the Inn's website illustrate wonderful breakfast options. However, we were told that breakfast was at 830am only and we were told what would be served--scrambled eggs, bacon, hash browns, toast, and fruit cup. The breakfast we received consisted of disgusting industrial powdered scrambled eggs, white toast, and cold hash browns. There was bacon and fruit cups. The coffee was absolutely undrinkable and one of our party received their coffee in a dirty mug. |At breakfast, after one of our party endured a cold shower, we told the staff there was no hot water. The innkeeper told us that the hot water heater was being worked on. No offer of refund or compensation due to the lack of hot water. The owner basically said there was nothing he could do--which meant there was nothing he wanted to do to make things right. So much for customer service. "NO REFUNDS"|We understand that keeping an inn of this size running well is challenging. The inn's website belies what the inn actually is like. The elderly inkeeper can't. The reality is that the inn is dirty, musty, cluttered, and not kept up. Stay...
Read moreThis was a terrible experience, we didn’t even make it to a room. The old man was nice at first but then became incredibly mean and we ended up walking out. We called the hotel the day of check in about 5 times at least between 10am and 2 when check in was at 2 and got no answer. The man did not show up until 2:15 and we went in to get our room. He said he had no record of our reservation which we made 2 weeks in advance on Expedia (which we were told to do when we called to make the reservation). So he took our information and we were trying to figure it out but he said he didn’t even know if he had a room for us with everyone else who was staying. So he then said he would charge the card and we asked to see the room to make sure it was everything we needed before he did. He asked why and we again said to make sure it was right for us and clean. He then went to the back and came back out and was very mean. He said he was upset about us asking to see a room and inferring that it was not clean. We did not mean it in this way but the place actually was very dirty, there was newspapers stacked, overflowing papers on the counter, dishes on a table covered in dust, and two abandoned cars in the parking lot that had not moved since 2016 (with already very limited parking), it was just unkept, untidy and dirty. But he was then very aggressive and started pounding his fists on the counter and saying we should go somewhere else and how he was offended. So we left. Once we started to leave he then changed his attitude and offered to let us see a room. It seemed as if he was too disorganized to get us situated so he got defensive. It was incredibly unprofessional and I wish I saw a room because I do not understand how this place could have high rating. He was incredibly unprofessional and clueless and he should not be involved with the business anymore. We do not understand why he was so offended as we did not mean it that way and did not give attitude or anything and we’re already concerned as he said he did not have our reservation. DO...
Read moreWe had a great experience here when we came to town briefly for a family event. Felt like we were staying at our aunt and uncle's home! We love old places and history and antiques, and this hotel is all of those, plus a wonderful breakfast cooked fresh by very friendly hotel staff. The location right in town is walking distance to several local eateries and convenient to the court house. We were relieved to find an ample parking lot on the grounds because the surrounding area is very hilly and/or metered. We noted several negative reviews, and will say that this is not the place for you if you are looking for standard hotel accommodations. The bathroom was small, the delicious and ample hot breakfast was only served at 8:30, there is no menu to pick from, and the hotel is also the residence of the proprietor, so does have a lived-in feel. The place is full of genuine antiques, and even in my own home, the antiques can give a dusty appearance. This is an old building that has never been gutted for a reno, but the authenticity and coziness is exactly what we liked about it! The bed was comfortable, towels were nice quality, the wifi was fine, there were plenty of outlets, books to pick up and read, and a sunny indoor porch to sit and enjoy them. Breakfast on a beautifully set table was hot tea or coffee, juice, fresh fruit cup, apple and cream cheese stuffed french toast and a sausage patty, but we're told this changes daily. The cook was very gracious. We reserved from the hotel's website on hotelsone.com (which is not posted on the google map site), and had no trouble. The hotel does not have a 24/7 desk, but voicemail worked. Would...
