As a lifelong Cape Cod vacationer, & a ten time runner of the Falmouth Road Race, Iâve run past the Beach Breeze Inn & was impressed by itâs festive appearance, and cheering guests. Weâve previously wanted to stay there but, through no oneâs fault but our own, never attempted to reserve a room in time to find a vacancy. After an earlier Cape stay we decided to return to Falmouth & were able to book a room.
What a disappointment!
The Positives:The BBI is close to the beach, on a very well maintained property. Itâs quaint, clean & staffed with an exceedingly friendly, capable & helpful staff. Our experience with our room more than canceled out the positives.
I made our reservation by phone, & the room I was placed in is their âStudioâ (room W-1 to be exact) Our room included two full sized beds, and a âkitchenetteâ with microwave, toaster oven, fridge, and it was amply supplied with utensils. Our room was almost cell like as far as space. Cramped would be an understatement. Thereâs no closet, no table to sit at, or even a single chair to sit ON. There was barely room for our luggage. If you used the kitchenette, you either need to eat standing, or sit on a bed.
The clean bathroom, was renovated with custom tile & had a roomy walk in shower. Amenities? You're given two thumb sized âbarsâ of soap, & a tube of shampoo. Thatâs IT! None of the toiletries youd get from even a cheap roadside motel. â
Our room had an âin wallâ A/C. We had some very humid weather and the a/c didnât function properly during those times. Our room was like a steam bath and it was impossible to sleep comfortably as a result. When the weather was less humid, it worked but, we really didnât need the A/C then. What was most surprising is, on the humid days, we left the a/c on when we werenât in the room, not only to hope it âcooled offâ but to hopefully rid the room of the musty smell. When we returned, housekeeping had shut off the A/C and opened the windows. Amazing!
Yes, the location was poolsideâtranslation? NOISEY and so close to the pool that when youâre standing outside your entrance, you can literally touch the people sitting on a chaise next to the fence. Toss in the the fact that the kitchenette lights didnât work (no, there wasnât a dimmer that we overlooked) and we did something weâve never done before in our life, leave a day early. Weâd had enough.
When we turned in the keys, we explained to the surprised innkeeper why we were leaving. He was polite, but indifferent. He outlined they make no pretenses as to room size, which is true, but they also arenât transparent. When I booked by phone, I expressed some reservation about the âfull sizedâ beds being adequate for two adults, and was told theyâd be fine. To be fair, we did express dissatisfaction with room size to the manager at check in. She did offer us the option to move to another room that was due to open up later in our stay but, that room included a full sized bed and bunks. A bunk wouldnât have suited our needs. When we declined, the manager kiddingly stated âyouâre going to get to know each other very well during your stay!â
Upon arriving home, we looked at some of the negative reviews and most are totally on par with what we stated. What was really disheartening was the responses from the owners to those reviews. They were defensive, and never seemed to acknowledge the reviewersâ statements as valid. When you get repeated negative reviews for the same grievances, they should be viewed as legitimate, constructive, and not disregarded as unimportant. Nor should your visitors be lectured to with excuses. They should do right by their guests. Do yourself a favorâŚREAD THOSE NEGATIVE REVIEWS
The BBI is a place with TREMENDOUS potential that, for a variety of reasons fell way short with us. We arenât nitpickers but, for a room with a base rate of $325 per night, we expected MUCH more, a comfortable...

I tend to not write negative reviews. I'd prefer to give people the benefit of the doubt, or go directly to the business. I did both of these things but to no avail. I feel the need to give people a heads up as the Inn has changed hands this season . We stayed here maybe 10 years ago, and had a nice time. My in laws were in the area last July, stayed here for a few nights and enjoyed their time overall. They bought us a gift card for the Inn, aware that it was being sold but were told the gift card would be honored if need be. We tried to use the gift card before the sale but there was no availability that worked. We were told via email that the new owners would honor the gift cards. That it was part of the sale agreement. So when booking opened, I went to book a few nights. But wanted to know how to process the gift card so I contacted the inn. The manager responded that she would check with the owners, but to go ahead and book. I said I'd wait to make sure about the gift card as I got a funny feeling. She eventually came back and said the new owners would not be honoring the gift card. Bear in mind, they had no idea how much the gift card was for. For the record it wasn't even going to cover a third of our planned stay. I responded that this was very unprofessional and sent them the email from the previous owner explaining that the new owners would have to honor gift cards as part of the sale agreement. As someone who works directly with customers, I just couldn't believe this was how things were handled. The whole interaction felt icky. Horrendous customer service. I need to look into small claims court proceedings next. They have not responded to my email showing the previous owner's explanation of gift cards having to be honored. It's part of the sale agreement and makes sense. They surely would have responded saying otherwise if that was...
