Update: hotel finally issued us a refund for not having any hot water during our stay. It took over 2 weeks for our payment method to be credited, but they did make a modest attempt to make things right. Updated review from 2 stars to 3 stars.
No hot water. No wifi.
The place has been recently updated and everything is new and clean. That's the good side. The problem is that they have tons of things that still need to get fine tuned. The motion sensor in the bathroom kept tripping and turning on the lights all night. And because the shower wall is basically a big window into the bedroom (yes, you could basically sit there and watch everyone else shower. The only privacy was a sun shade that you could pull down, but that you can see through if the bedroom is dark and the shower lights are on.
But let's get back to the two big issues. Apparently there was a gas leak, so they had to shut down the hot water for the complex. They knew about the issue at check in and did not mention it. Apparently they were trying to get someone out to fix it ... on New Year's Eve. They were unsuccessful. So when we attempted to shower the next morning there was nothing but cold water. We went to the front desk and they acknowledged that there was an issue, that they were working on it, and that they would comp us for the night. The problem still wasn't fixed by the next day. The response from the staff the next day was that we'd need to reach out through the app. They couldn't help us.
As we were talking with the front desk staff another guest overheard our conversation, "What, there's no hot water?" Apparently he hadn't been told at check-in that there was a problem either.
As of this time, WE STILL HAVE NOT BEEN REFUNDED FOR THE HOT WATER ISSUES. The hotel has not responded to any of the private messages we have sent them nor refunded any of our room fees as promised by the hotel staff. Posting a public review is the next step.
Note that in addition to not having hot water, the wifi would not connect. We had a network engineer in our party who was able to quickly determine that they had it configured improperly. The wifi pw worked, but they did not have enough IP addresses available for the number of rooms in the hotel. This would not have been a problem with low occupancy, but once full, there are not enough dynamic IP addresses to assign out to all of their guests. The same problem with the TV's wifi. It was unable to connect. We brought this to the attention of the hotel staff, who said they were aware there was a problem with the wifi. We offered our services to help them repair the problem, but they were unwilling to take us up on our offer of help to fix their network issues.
At the end of the day, the hotel is clean and looks like it has potential so I gave it an extra star. But the hotel staff lacked training or the hotel had insufficient policies in place to handle outages effectively. The hotel management has been unresponsive and doesn't care about its guests or would have responded to one of our inquiries by now. There are still a number of bugs to work out in their systems.
Strongly recommend finding a different place to stay until they can figure out some of these basics. With LAX flights directly overhead, they already start out with a strike. Hot water = 2 strikes. No wifi or TV...
Read moreWe checked in at 9pm for a short trip after walking around in the hot sun all day. The check in process was fine but nothing else was. We got to our room and our sheets were damp to start with, our tv also didn’t work, it sat at a blue screen our entire trip, and we really wanted water. So we went to the front desk to address some issues. First no ice in the entire building, the only water dispenser was this small thing in the lobby which when we were there didn’t work, so no water either. Then they sent someone to look at our tv, he looked at a cord for a minute and said he’d be back, but never came back, so no tv during our down time at night. After inspecting the room more it was extremely dirty, mold in the bathroom and shower, black finger print stains on the walls and ceiling, used hair ties left in the room from id assume the last guests. Overall really not a great look but it still gets worse. The next morning we were awoken early (between 6 and 7am) by some kind of fire alarm or other ceiling alarm that would loudly go off every minute. So after coming back from our second day exhausted and having be up at 2am to get our flight we wanted to sleep but no surprise didn’t really get any, the walls are paper thing so you hear EVERYTHING. All the noises in the hallway which usually can be ignored but the guest staying in the room next to us was on a phone call until midnight and we could hear the entire conversation. So be warned if you’re talking about something private, same goes for the balconies, there’s no walls or anything between them and they’re practically right next to each other (not a big deal for us, we don’t use it but might be nice to know for others). Lastly and probably the worst is the awful valet that they force you to use. It is and egregious $60 to $100 a night depending on the vehicle size. Let me tell you this is the most pointless valet service and a very obvious cash grab that you are forced to use as is no other parking near by (it’s all stadium parking that is closed when events are not going on). So every time we needed our car we were told to walk around the other side of the building to meet them at their gate with our car, when I could just walk a couple more feet at that point and get the car myself. This is such a toxic business practice and completely unnecessary. This hotel pretty much feels like a cheap house flip just to make money off of it. The location is great if you’re going to one of the concerts or events near by but with the stadiums right across the road there’s little point to a car if that’s all you’re here for then getting force to pay for valet on top of it. Cannot really recommend this hotel. Can’t comment on the on site restaurant we didn’t go. There were a few really nice rooftop/balcony spots you could sit but during our stay all the chairs were removed. There is a pool and hot but we...
Read moreThe most positive thing I can say about this hotel is that it’s within walking distance to the venues that are in the area. Sofi is about 1/2 mile and the Kia Forum about a mile - there are sidewalks. The valet service was good (keep in mind, valet is mandatory and $55 a night - $110 for oversized vehicles). Other than that, I was pretty disappointed by a hotel bearing the Hilton name. They are doing construction right now, so all we heard while waiting to check in was obnoxious drilling right outside the lobby that made it impossible to communicate with the desk clerk. We checked just after four, and there was one desk clerk checking in a long line of people who were all unhappy because of the relentless noise and slow service. It took about 40 minutes to be helped (I checked in on the app and requested a digital key, but for some reason I needed to show my ID at the desk), because the clerk was working alone, it was difficult to hear over the construction, and because of this, she had to listen to everyone complain before she could help them. Seriously, that woman could use a bonus or a raise or something. There were two gentlemen in the office behind the check in desk, one of whom was the manager, who seemed to be allergic to helping her (maybe she should be getting some of their paycheck!) So we get checked in and head out for the evening. We don’t pay much mind to the room at that time because we had a concert to get to. We got back around 11:30 and realize the beds were never made. The duvets and covers were balled up at the foot of the bed, and very annoying to unravel. It also made me question whether they were even clean. There was 1/2 roll of toilet paper for the four of us to share. The guardrail on the top bunk was loose, so we felt uncomfortable letting our kids stay up there - which had been the plan. The adults on our trip have long outgrown climbing a ladder to the top bunk. The bathroom door didn’t close properly (you could see straight on through a two inch gap when the door was ‘closed’), and it certainly didn’t lock. No ice machines or vending machines to be found anywhere. Pool is currently drained. No phone in the room to call the front desk - not that anyone would be available to take your call. When we went to check out this morning, we couldn’t find a desk clerk to assist us. I ended up checking out on the app and leaving my room keys on the counter. All in all, the quality and level of service at this Hilton was more akin to a cheap motel. If being close to the arenas is important to you and you really aren’t picky, you can suffer this place for a night. But if you’re willing to drive and park or Uber, do yourself a favor and stay...
