We booked a room at the Sleep In Louisville on 3330 Preston Highway back in August of 2013 for Kentucky Derby Weekend May 2-4, 2014. I was excited that the hotel offered two night stays and seemed like a good location and for derby weekend and an okay price. I booked a room for 3 adults, a queen suite with pullout and 2 bathrooms. We arrived on Friday, May 2 around 7:00 p.m after traveling from Chicago and were first disappointed to find that the Derby giveaway that was being handed out was only for 2 people and when I asked for a third glass the hotel staff seemed surprised, why would I want 3? I explained that my reservation was for 3 adults, it seemed appropriate that we would have an item for each guest. I know this is not a big deal, and I normally would not write to complain about it, but I am adding it my list of stupid that the front desk presented to us for the weekend. It was nice that the hotel offered a give-away, but it seems to be in-line with the lack of customer service and training that is being offered by the front desk staff that they didn’t pay attention to how many people are in a room. Seems like hospitality 101 that you have an item for each guest that is booked on the reservation. The front desk, did ultimately tell us that the ‘manager said it was okay to give us a third glass’ and gave us a third as we were unloading the car, but it kind of feels like a gee thanks at that point…. I wouldn’t be writing if that was the only hiccup. But we were given the keys to our room and we walked into the room, to be greeted by the worst odor you can image coming from the bathroom, as if someone had just used the faculties and they had severe stomach issues. Very welcoming….. Then we realized that the foul smelling bathroom was the only bathroom in the room. I went back to the front desk where the guy tries to tell me that because the room has a queen sized bed and pull out it is the room that I reserved. I show him my reservation, which clearly says queen suite, 2 bathrooms and if the room doesn’t have 2 bathrooms, then no that is not the same room type that I reserved. He finally agrees with me and changes the room. I am still trying to figure that out, if you have a queen suite with 2 bathrooms, and that’s what I reserved then why wasn’t I given that to start with. So we go back get our stuff and change rooms, that’s fun to do after a 6 hour car ride. And then of course, even though I asked when we changed rooms, I had to go back to the front desk to request the bedding for the pull out. Then on Sunday afternoon after we check out, our friend’s travel plans changed and she needed to stay in town a bit longer and asks to book a room for two more nights (and this process is just too much stupid to put in writing, let’s just say that more training is needed, lots more training). We just paid triple the normal room rate to stay two nights and now need two more nights and they can’t seem to figure out how to make this happen, really was the hotel full for the Sunday after Derby? She did get a room, but it's the way that they handle things that is just not neccessary. Then Sunday night around 6 our friend is coming down to go to dinner and apparently the front lobby had just been mopped, but no signage was put up and she slipped and fell in the lobby bruising her knees and elbows significantly. And instead of apologizing, offering to help, or any other of a hundred kind and professional things that could have been done, the guy at the front desk says he is going to review the security tape because he doesn’t believe her!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! And then the following day offers to comp one night, ‘because well why should I offer more than one night, what will that change?” I just can’t figure this out every single person we encountered in Louisville during derby week was so kind and friendly. Where are you getting these front desk people from and who is training them? We would have given some slack it being such a busy weekend, but the front desk people told us this isn’t the busiest weekend at all, they sell out all the time because of the expo center, really, I can’t image. That being said I will complement the women that are part of the cleaning staff as being very friendly and helpful, even on what I’m sure is a very busy weekend for them, they were helpful with getting extra items for the room and very pleasant and had a great system for derby day of asking if we needed extra items instead of trying to clean rooms with so many of us staying in rooms till the afternoon. My friends and I travel a lot for both business and pleasure and will hesitate long and hard before I ever book another room at a Choice Hotel (it’d have to be the only option). I can’t risk having a holiday marred by having to deal with such incompetence and rudeness. I wish I could get my money back for this weekend or erase some of the stupid that we dealt with. Please invest in training the...
Read moreOkay, I'm usually not one to be all negative Nancy, but I'm going to be on my soap box for a few minutes this morning to shout out a PSA to anyone who travels for sports:
We traveled to KY for the Rising Run for Roses tournament earlier this month. The tournament itself was great. The issue lies with it being a stay-to-play event, and the travel agency you have to book through in order to play there. To start with I tried for 2 weeks to get the link to work to book a room, but it was continually showing ZERO vacancies anywhere. Eventually I used the "contact me" link and sent an email to the agency explaining my issue & asked for assistance. She was polite & apologized & sent me another link to try (which tbh looked identical to the one online, but it worked whereas the other didn't so I didn't question it). A couple days later I finally had time to sit and research the places to stay. I opted for Sleep Inn because it was the very closest to the venue & it was just going to be me & the girls & I didn't like having to drive further than necessary in an unfamiliar town with just us. I booked, it was uneventful, I got my confirmation & thought I was all set. Come back to work after the July 4th holiday & check my email & boy was I surprised to see Sleep Inn had emailed me SEVEN reminders & "looking forward to seeing you on your upcoming stay" emails. Initially I thought it was just a glitch until I looked a little closer & noticed they ALL had different confirmation numbers, and only one of them was the original one I got when I booked. I panicked. Charging me for 7 rooms would be nearly $3000. I contacted Sleep Inn, they told me it was an issue with the travel agency & to contact them - but in the mean time "they'd make a note that it was only to be one room". I emailed team firs travel & they said they'd look into it. Got there and they wanted to charge me for all 7. I explained again, it was only 1...have no clue where the other 6 came from. They said again to contact the travel agency, that was a mistake on their end...and they'd only charge me for one room. Then proceeded to run my card twice (insert eyeroll here). I went online again & found a number to the travel agency, called but no one answered (it was a message that they were traveling & to leave a message or call back I think). Then I got an auto reply text from that number. I just hung up. We talked through the running the card twice thing & got it taken care of and by the time I checked out it for sure was just one room, one charge, good-to-go.....or so I thought. Fast forward to this morning & I've now been charged an additional $200 from Sleep Inn for "no shows" on those 6 rooms. The 6 other rooms I didn't book. The 6 other rooms that were supposed to be fixed. Oh My Freaking Gosh Darn It. I called the hotel, chewed the little fella out that answered the phone then apologized profusely because I know it's not his fault & that's not who I am. Thankfully he accepted my apology but he is supposed to have a manager call me back. The thing is, they need to be calling the travel agency to fix because #1) They paired with the travel agency & #2) the travel agency paired with them....I'm not in that equation and THIS SHOULD NOT STILL BE MY FREAKING PROBLEM!!! I also emailed the travel agency...again. Saying all of that to say: if you travel for sports - PLEASE FOR THE LOVE OF GRAVY PAY ATTENTION TO YOUR CHARGES, WHO YOU BOOK THROUGH AND WHO YOU BOOK WITH...AND DON'T STAY AT A SLEEP INN EVEN IF IT'S CLOSER, AND DON'T BOOK WITH TEAM FIRST TRAVEL, FIND ANOTHER WAY TO BOOK! We spoke with other parents staying there and some said they had been charged multiple rooms too, again, is that on the travel agency or the hotel? And one parent checked in, got their keys & room #, went to the room and it was already occupied! That level of incompetency makes me think it may be a hotel issue...okay, rant over. But seriously though, watch who...

(I WILL LEAVE MY ORIGINAL REVIEW AT THE BOTTOM HOWEVER I AM TAKING DOWN MY STAR RATING AND GOING TO EXPLAIN HERE)
Okay so while my original review remains true for the extent of my stay, i had something strange happpen on my last two days. The room was in my dads name (due to problems at home he wanted to rent a room to ensure he had somewhere to sleep at for his long hours at work) I am homeless and wanted to get off the streets to shower and sleep safely for a decent price as well as see my dad and pay for the room-as his problems improved at home I ended up being the one who mostly stayed here. The last night i was here (out of almost 2 whole weeks)we went out and he had come back with me to renew the card and chat for a bit and while doing so i grabbed the reciept to put in my binder of reciepts. I noticed it said "$200" . now, I had given him $200 for the room, but said to keep the change knowing that every other day i was here, it costed roughly $100- at least i thought it did.. therefore i was under the impression he would be keeping the other $100 as "change" (more like a gift) as i did the day before.. So I said "woah they just charged you $200 dollars?" and he said "yeah i guess so , i figured the price went up"(Which probably made me look rude lol) and i responded "but i told you to keep the change, why didnt you tell me there was no change??" of course being the humble man he is, he said "i just appreciated the thought that you would have left me change if there was any to leave me." Then, tired from work and not wanting to deal with the issue he left to go see his girlfriend and fell asleep there. Well there was supposed to be $100 dollars change for my dad as a gift twice(mostly to cover the insane amount of gas money he spends on a daily basis), and i checked the receipt from the day before, and as i suspected this had happened twice in a row!! The next morning my grandpa came to drive me elsewhere, he when he went up front and asked about the random raise in price and was just told that something "didnt look right" and he was unsure what had happened. I was furious honestly, but he doesnt like confrontation and also works a lot on a tight schedule so we had to go. I called a few times with no answer and will be contacting someone higher up if this continues to be the case. Sorry, not sorry- this was a highly dissapointing way to end an overall good stay.
So my advice is CHECK YOUR RECIEPTS BEFORE YOU LEAVE THE COUNTER!! Sorry for the book, but i felt a full explanation was neccessary for it to make any sense as it was a unique scenario.
My ORIGINAL 5 STAR REVIEW I wrote 3 days before I left When I look at some of these reviews, it's like they expect a 5 star galt-house experience from a hotel that costs the same as Louisville manor motel did. (P.s., the galt-house is over rated in my opinion just saying..) I feel like (minus the renovations currently underway) the service, rooms, and convinence are all well above average for a hotel at this price range. Furthermore, the fact that it's so quiet with virtually no foot traffic is a big deal in this town. Usually when I go to hotels that cost less than $100 a night in Louisville , there's perverts or people of the sort that won't leave me alone outside at least, if not inside. But truthfully, as a young single woman I feel I am much safer at the Sleep Inn than at other hotels. Therefore I would definitely call this...
