Not a great experience. The accommodations reasonable for the price, they have Wi-Fi that worked well enough to stream Netflix at midnight. And they have a bar and Continental breakfast.
On the bad side, they have no in room movies, the picture on my TV was poor, I'm pretty sure the sheets on my bed had not been changed since the last guest. The bed had crumbs in the sheets like someone had been eating in it, as well as a few small stains. At midnight I really didn't feel like dealing with it so I asked at the front desk if they could have it taken care of the next day. I returned to the room at midnight the next day to find the same slightly stained sheets still on my bed. Also I noticed that they did not replace any of the consumables such as soap and shampoo, coffee, or disposable drinking cups. I guess you just get one set of those and it is supposed to last for your entire visit.
The staff, although nice enough, not rude, but also not very helpful or on top of their game. For example when I checked in at 11:00 PM in the rain, I did not get clear instructions on how to get into the parking garage, the only gat seemed to require a pass card that I didn't have. After driving around for a while without success I was told by a grumpy desk clerk that you have to leave the parking lot and go around the far side of the parking structure to get to the gates that will open for guests, they only gate that can be seen from the parking lot is for staff only. This is something only someone who works there would know, but it was explained to me with irritation and confusion on why I didn't know that the lot was a public lot, not exclusive for the hotel, and I would therefore, of course, have to go back out onto the street away from the hotel and use the entrance on the opposite side from the hotel. Obvious to someone who works there, I'm sure, but not obvious to guests, and therefore no reason to treat them with irritation when they come back in from the rain for the second time to get directions...
Read moreI was very disappointed by the general lack of upkeep and cleanliness at the Lowell Inn. It really felt like a cheap roadside motel and not a place owned and operated by a university and it’s conference center. Most disappointing was the lack of information shared in the website about the fact that the “hotel rooms” are dorm rooms during the academic year. The facility’s “inn rooms” are year-around accommodations and are more expensive. The hotel rooms are dorm rooms but that is never explicitly noted. While this concept is not a bad idea, the Lowell Inn made little effort to make the rooms hospitable to hotel guests. The photos shown of the hotel rooms on the website did not accurately show the room we were given and made me believe this was a ‘bait and switch’ operation. Our room had an old desk lamp with broken shade, no bedside lights, no chair other than a desk chair, filthy carpet, old and scratched dresser, bed stand and desk, moldy bathroom tiles, old faucets and flaking bathroom paint, scuffed walls throughout, and lumpy beds and pillows. We needed to move rooms because our sink had no plug and we feared items would drop down the drain. The hallway carpet was visibly dirty everywhere, the guest laundry had dirt and debris on the floor, and the breakfast was skimpy. The utilization of unused dorm rooms for hotel rooms during the school’s break is a good idea and with some work and professional level of maintenance and attention this place would seem to have potential. In the meantime the management should clearly share information about the accommodations on their website and include photos that accurately show the...
Read moreI was here on an extended stay for business. This place (as I would not considered it a hotel||The name Inn speaks for itself) needs major updates along with housekeeping and maintenance attention. The vent in the bathroom and the floor of the bathroom was beyond filthy. I have serious sinus issues and this was a major concern. The bathtub floor was not cleaned to me liking although (I always make sure where ever I go I have shower shower shoes and my own personal towels regardless of the ratings of the hotel) and the bathroom floor needed cleaning (I put all the towels down so I didn't have to walk on it and I had on socks so I didn't have to walk on the carpet). The carpet in the room appeared to have not been cleaned in some time and the ceiling of the room had evidence of leaks and needed repairs. Not to mention the lack of security on the floors (no cameras except by the elevator) and the concern with the bedroom locks. Being here for a week with not much to do after meetings the room internet was trustworthy as I kept getting warnings on my work computer and the channels on the tv was very lacking. The room I was in all night and probably during the day (I could not confirm as I was in meetings until after 4) you could hear the generator or something going all night long. The bed is ok but not very comfortable but of course each person has their own preference. I must say I did not have a good night sleep my entire stay. My personal opinion if you have other options even if you have to drive or ride share in for business/personal purposes stay in the Boston area (which of course is about away)...
