Motel 6 Mattoon, IL — Hotel in Mattoon

I am very disgusted with the service and dirty room we were given. We pull up to the front desk it takes a worker over 5 mins to even come to the front. Someone who was watching the camera had to call him on the radio. He called it “the eye in the sky.” Once we get into the room after driving 8 hours all I want to do is lay down, plus I had just had a heart procedure. I tell my boyfriend to let me check the bed and I’m glad I did. There was several hairs in the bed and there were crumbs and dirt all in the bed like someone wore their shoes in the bed and she just pulled the sheets up to cover it. The phone did not work and it was covered in jelly. Our television remote didn’t work so we had to leave it on the same channel for the night. When I asked for new sheets and pillows it took him 20 mins to bring them to us. Even then I had to help him make the bed and he even brought the wrong size bedding. This was after I had to walk back to the front desk because I couldn’t call up there. It was 3 in the morning! He had called someone named Margi and asked her to come make the room she must have said she was already in bed and for him to take care of it. Margi was also the woman’s name on the comment card that cleaned the room. I also filled out the comment card. I have pictures of all these items for proof also. The bathroom toilet ran all night no matter what we did. The room was full of cobwebs in the corners and scratched up walls. The bathroom looked like it had just been dry walled and left without paint. I have never had such a horrible room. Right after we saw the condition of the room we went back to get our money back and he said we would not get a refund because the eligible time had past. I told him I understood that except this room is not what was shown in the pictures so we were duped. The next morning when we checked out we again let the front desk know the state of the room and she said she would give us 10% off our next stay. I told her we would never be staying there again. I booked a two night stay in order to check out 4-6 hours late with my 2 large dogs, expecting a painless experience. After 10 pm when I had just fallen asleep, the dogs and I awoke to 2 men entering my room. The door being 10 feet from the bed, we sprang up and I slammed the door, shouting "Wrong room!" and rebolted it shut. Holding the door closed with my heart pounding, they opened it AGAIN using a key card. I shouted AGAIN that they had the wrong room and called the front desk. They told me they had a customer having difficulty entering his room, so the manager used his key to let the guy in. Problem is, it was MY room, not his. As a woman here alone, it scared the bejeebers out of me that my door was opened TWICE. Totally unacceptable. I called the hotline to share my experience, which was a banal process that left me on hold for 15 minutes. Following my sleep-free night, regardless of the "Do Not Disturb" sign on my door, they called the room phone twice, and knocked to talk to me about the point at issue. Obviously that woke me up multiple times and was ridiculous. Warily, (because I feared my belongings would be stolen) I left for 25 minutes to get supper. Upon returning, I note a tarp covered van and several scruffy folks cooking on a portable grill behind the motel, and confirm that I have stayed in one of "those places". Then with my 2 dogs and arms full, I find that my key card has been deactivated. The manager happened to be outside at the time and said he'd reprogram it and be right back. Over half an hour later, he still had not returned. I had to call the front desk before someone brought me my key. I realize that this is a "budget motel", but as they profess a desire to provide passable service, I have to say that I would have been better off sleeping in my unlocked car at a...

After driving 100s of miles (a lot of it through dense fog), I needed a place to rest my head. I didn't want to pay an arm and a leg for a hotel, so I shopped around and found this Motel 6 for just $51/night. I thought okay, this place is probably decent, I'll check in here. The outside wasn't really impressive, but once I walked into the lobby I was pleasantly surprised. It was lovely in there. The fellow that was working that night was super friendly, and even gave me an hour later checkout time because I got in so late. I thought that was really nice! The exterior of the building with the rooms had me a little concerned, but once I opened the door, oh my!! It was beautiful in there! Hardwood floors, a king size bed, it smelled amazing, everything was so clean, there was finished cherry wood furniture, a full bathroom, a table and chairs, and a nice sink/counter, fridge. It was just a great room! Plus the door had like 3 locks on it, so no one was getting in there. I had a great stay, 100% would stay here again. I also had a long and friendly conversation with the General Manager before I left. He really truly cares about his customers. I mean, he will go above and beyond to make your stay as great as possible. Super friendly, and will really make you feel welcomed! Tell your friends about...
