Our experience with the WPH was so awful I genuinely do not know where to start. We arrived in Miami for a 2 night stay pre cruise. When we got there the reception doors were closed and we had to walk around the bar area, this largely wasn’t too big a deal. I wish I could say our experience started on a positive note, sadly this was not the case. When we were checking in the guy who checked us in had an attitude problem that was highly visible on his face, we said nothing about this initially as we all have bad day
We got to our room which was fine, the floor was dirty but the bed and shower were clean, as we were only there for 2 nights and didn’t plan on spending a large amount of time in our room we weren’t too worried. As we got to Miami quite late our first night we just dropped our bags to our room. We were staying in the Bel Ayre block on the ground floor down the very bottom of the row furthest away from reception. After we dropped our bags we headed out for a walk around and some dinner. We came back to our room just before 12 to shower and get some sleep as it had been a long day of traveling.
We got up the next morning and went to the beach. Your resort fees cover a “free” tuktuk to the beach while this is fine to get to the beach note that it is not reliable to pick you up as we ended up walking back which again we didn’t mind too much. We came back to our room about 1pm to chill out and come out of the heat for an hour or two. We decided we would get our documents ready for going on our cruise the next day and do a bus tour in the afternoon. We booked our bus tour through the hotel, the company was Miami Tours.
Our bus was scheduled to pick us up at 3pm, we left the hotel at 2.50PM as we only had to wait across the road next to Burger King. Our bus was nearly 30 minutes late picking us up, there was nobody at the bus stop to represent the company. When the bus did arrive our tour eventually started. Our tour overall was good, we saw lots of cool sites and also enjoyed a river cruise of star row. Our bus was supposed to pick us up at 7.30 PM. There was a group of us waiting, the bus never picked us up. We ended up asking another group could we go back with them. Thankfully this tour guide was far more professional and reliable.
When we got back to our room we had planned on having a quick shower and going for some dinner in the diner across the road. We got back to the hotel about 8.30PM We again walked down to our room and used our card to open the door. Our door opened without issue however we noticed the door was on the latch which we thought was quite weird. I tried to use my finger to push the latch back presuming that the latch had swung over the door. Our presumption at this point was that this may have been a mistake by housekeeping as they had not been in when we left the hotel at 2.50pm
To our complete surprise there was somebody asleep in our bed using my eye mask. We started banging on the door and windows to try and wake them having confirmed we were at the right room. The person eventually woke and came to the door. She was not a guest but a homeless drug addict. While we sympathize with those that have fallen on hard times and are homeless it is unacceptable and a serious security risk to come back from an afternoon our to find a drug addict spaced out in our bed. To add to our surprise the lady was sleeping in a made bed meaning housekeeping had been between the time we left and 8.30.
When I saw this lady’s appearance I knew there was a high probability she could have needles etc on her. As I didn’t want to come in contact with her I ran up the hallway to get help. I came across another guest who was staying with his family. He went down to help my boyfriend while I looked for security. I went into reception and initially spoke with the guy who checked us in. I had asked for the police to be called, the hotel declined. He turned to his colleague and spoke in Spanish saying something to the effect of I am not going,...
Read moreI have very mixed feelings on this hotel. The hotel is a complex of four different buildings. Each one looking from the 1940-1950’s. The grounds are well taken care of and the pool was clean. I arrived from a cruise at 11am in check in day. I was hoping to get an early check in. I was told that was absolutely not possible. I was also informed that check in was 4pm and not 3pm that is clearly stated on Priceline’s website. I had a printout even stating this. I presented this to the check in and was told Priceline was wrong. However they took my number and told me they would give me a call as soon as they could get me into a room. They called me at 3:41pm. To me this is unacceptable in every way. The room should be ready at 3 in that’s what you have proof of. I was not even offered an apology or a refund for securing time spent elsewhere for their mistake. Did it matter all that much, not really because I had a few drinks and passed out on the beach in the sun. They were nice enough to give me a key card to get a discount at the cafe across the street, a beach towel and even offered me bottled water. Upon check in around 4pm everything was sorted out promptly and I was put in the furthest building called Davies. First impressions of the building walking in were good. The 1940s Art Deco vibe that I really dig was in place. I was on the first floor and wakes up the stairs. As soon as I open the hallway door and stepped into the hallway I immediately felt regret that I had booked this hotel. The hallways were filthy and smelled like mold. I could feel my throat closing up immediately. They need some emergency TLC and need a good vacuum and a stream clean, or 20! I get to my room and open to door and wait for all hell to hit me in the face. I was actually quite impressed at first. The room was large and spacious. A large sitting area. Two air conditioner and two TV, one for each room. The king bed was comfortable. It was not 4 star clean by any means. The bathroom could have used a bit of TLC. The baseboard were dirty. Small things that I decided to overlook because I was completely exhausted after a party cruise. I spent 3 nights at the hotel. It was decently quiet. I could hear the upstairs people walking on their floor in high heels at times but it wasn’t to bad that I could not sleep. The blackout curtains did a great job. The daily housekeeping was only sub par. The housekeeper I had did not speak English and my Spanish I quite terrible. Upon waking me up on day to clean the room we couldn’t even have a conversation about needing more towels. Several things were forgotten in the room each day. Clean towels not being left. No shampoo. I brought this to the attention of the front desk and it was fixed within seconds. I didn’t just get one wash cloth I got 8. It was cute but a little strange at the same time. Never the less it made me giggle. One thing that annoyed me about the most comfortable bed I have slept on in years is there were nothing but flat sheets. The duvet was just flat sheets instead of a duvet cover. There was also no fitted sheet. I woke up every morning in a pile of four sheets after sleeping like a baby! I went to the gym several times during my stay. It was adequate for a hotel. Except that there were no 20lb dumbbells. I worked around that fact bc it was so clean and quiet. Set up nicely to with the lights facing the walls so your eyes didn’t burn out when laying back to exercise. This has been an honest and what I hope to be helpful review. This hotel is cheap cheap cheap for the amazing location. It’s directly across from Twist and is a 5 minute walk to the beach. Gay paradise location. I would recommend staying here if you can forgive the flaws that can and should be addressed appropriately...
Read moreArrived at the hotel at 5pm and was informed my room was not ready. The front desk staff suggested we “take a walk Or grab a drink” while our room was prepped because it was such a beautiful day. Ok. My husband and I left to grab some dinner. When we returned an hour later, we got the keys to our room. I had booked a premier king suite with a private terrace for my husband‘a birthday getaway. When we got up to the room, it smelled horrible, like drano chemicals and old socks, and it was dirty. The walls were dirty and the floors needed a good mopping. I sat on the bed and noticed ants crawling all over the nightstand. I was horrified and disappointed. My husbands birthday getaway was being ruined. I called the front desk and they sent a maintenance man up to the room to spray the ants. Ok. After he left I continued to see the ants on the nightstand and in the bathroom. So needless to say, I asked for another room. I was told there were no other rooms available like the one I had, but I could transfer to a smaller suite. The manager, Roger, was very hospitable. He offered to waive the resort fee for the night and refund me the difference in the price of the room I had originally booked and the room I ended up staying in. Roger then showed us to another room. The next room we got was a junior suite. To make up for the room issues, Roger brought a bottle of champagne to the new room for my husbands birthday. That was sweet, but the new room was not the cleanest either. There was hair in the shower and on the floor In the room and the couch was stained and dirty. There was only one washcloth and the toilet was clogged and did not flush properly. We called the front desk and they sent maintenance up to fix the toilet. THe maintenance guy was prompt and polite. The next day We asked housekeeping to leave some fresh towels as we were leaving our room to grab some lunch. “Sure”. Was her response. When we got back, the old washcloth had been removed, but there were no fresh washcloths or towels. The trash had not been dumped and the bed was not made. We called down to the front desk and asked for more washcloths and towels and were told by the front desk staff, and I quote, “I am not even going to lie to you, but the truck did not come and I can’t offer you towels. I know it’s not your fault, but We don’t have any towels”. What? What hotel runs out of towels? My husband asked if we could have washcloths, but they had no washcloths either. We requested hand towels instead and the staff quickly brought up some hand towels. All in all, even though the location is good for South Beach, And the manager was very nice, this is the worst hotel experience I’ve ever had, and I would not recommend this hotel to anyone, nor do I plan to ever stay here on my future...
